Martian Gothic was originally a point and click adventure game that was turned into a RE clone early in development. IMO the gameplay is repetitive and gets really dull by the end but the story is surprisingly good by video game standards. Most people know this game from looking up compilation videos of the most terrible voice acting in gaming. While the one main character was indeed horribly acted, I have to say some side characters, especially the computer AI, had strong vocal performances. If you're interested then it's at least worth grabbing a ROM for.

That's half the story. RE started as a Sweet Home remake, but they couldn't get the game to "feel" right while attempting several concepts (Even being an FPS at one point). Eventually, Mikami got ahold of AitD, and the rest is history.

It has better controls, much better graphics, and more interesting setting than RE4. The gameplay is a bit more boring unfortunately. Honestly, I've played it, and the gameplay is nothing like RE4. Just because it's a 3rd person shooter survival horror with a main character that kinda resembles Leon, doesn't mean that it's an RE4 clone. The true RE4 clone is Dead Space.
