If you're a Pokefag you probably noticed these strange videos the official Pokemon accounts all over social media have been posting, the "Explore Pokemon" travel guides. Started on the 20th with Kanto, then the next day Johto, then Hoenn, then Sinnoh, and today Unova. Tomorrow Kalos will be revealed, and then Tuesday Alola. Not only that but they all end with the same question "Which region of the Pokemon World would you want to visit?"
These video releases are all lining up to Wednesday, which is Pokemon Day. IT's speculated that Pokemon Day Gen 8 will be revealed, just like Gen 7 was revealed during Pokemon Day 2016. A lot of the "leaks" and "rumors" are saying we're getting a UK region or an Italy region…however with these cryptic posts highlighting everything about those regions, as well as some Instagram posts of each region's starters, I have another theory: What if we aren't getting a new region, but instead getting every major region ever returning?
The big one. The Pokemon game we've all begged them to make for years: A Pokemon game where all the regions were explorable, with every Pokemon ever available. Originally it couldn't be done, but now that the series is moving to the Switch it's now completely possible. Every region, every Pokemon, and so much more all there. The whole theme about Gen 8 being revisiting all of the regions, and discovering all the new Pokemon that have mysteriously appeared all over the world. Not only that, but Team Rainbow Rocket from USUM are still at large, so they could be the main villain team for Gen 8.
Another reason this could make sense is because of who is making the Gen 8 game/s: The same team behind Heartgold & Soulsilver. That devteam's philosophy is to spoil the player as much as possible, just throwing in everything they can imagine, every little feature, piece of content, making the game as big as possible. They probably heard what Sakurai was planning to do with Smash Bros and thought to do the same with Pokemon, make the first core Pokemon RPG on a home console the biggest one yet. Let's Go doesn't count.
I could be wrong. Could be a whole new region, but I just find it odd they're doing these cryptic travel guides recapping all our favorite regions, despite the fact it's not a grand occasion like the 10th or 20th Anniversary.

Mind you, the last mainline games have had fuck-all in terms of post-game content, and even the "Ultra" versions of the recent Sun and Moon games have had little in addition to what the base "Sun and Moon" games had. Before that, even, with the Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby games, they couldn't even be arsed to have the same post-game content that the originals had, making me question why the fuck they even bothered remastering Sapphire and Ruby if it wasn't gonna have the exact same shit but looking a little fancier.
Trust me when I say that Game Freak is a fucking joke. You're getting your hopes up if you think the next mainline game will be anything other than the same-ol-same-ol

I expect GF to eventually drop Pokémon Bank in favor of Pokémon Let's Go stats and rebalance the game from the ground up. If Pokémon Bank is kept that'll be a miracle. I wouldn't put it past Game Freak to require you to catch 'em all over again.

The battle system is good though, and there have been huge improvements to the battle system with each gen until 5, which focused more on improving the other elements of the series.
Gen 2 added held items and a new type for balance, gen 3 added abilities, double battles, and weather, and Gen 4 introduced the physical/special split, which might seem small to the uninitiated but is actually probably the biggest deal of all of them.
Once Gen 5 comes around Gamefreak doesn't make any more huge changes to battle mechanics, but there are still actually some pretty big changes in all gens but 7.

That's never gonna fucking happen. Gamefreak has been designing the games for the mobile market since gen 6, that's why there has been less and less content with each release and why everything is more streamlined than ever before.
Gen 8 is gonna be this; a region that seems non-linear but roadblocks to force you in a certain direction, pokemon go connectivity and the post elite four being nothing more than a battle tower clone with a 35 minute long "episode". The a year later we will get Diamond and Pearl remakes with none of the Platinum content included.

In 2020 they'll release Pokemon Shiny Diamond and Pokemon Big Pearl. They'll be remakes that for the most part just give it Let's Go graphics and remove the postgame. They won't include any of the Platinum content.
Then, in 2021, they'll release Pokemon Reflective Platinum, which is a slight upgrade from SDBP but otherwise the same game.
Alternatively, episodic releases.
Diamond is episode 1 (Gyms 1-4), Pearl is episode 2 (Gyms 5-8), Platinum is episode 3: Elite 4 + New hour-long campaign that explains the Pokemon Go connectivity and requires you to feed a Meltan the Pokemon Go candies which require hours of grinding or IRL money.

Stat candies increase your Pokemon's stats, and are gained when you send a Pokemon you catch to Oak. If you want a lot of candy in a reasonable amount of time, you'll need to pay money for the Pokeballs to catch the Pokemon that you send to Oak. It's a roundabout method but yes, you're basically paying for it with real money unless you're willing to use a full year's worth of free Pokeballs and daily logins.

The logic behind that is that you actually need to have the keystone for mega evolution to work. It's no different than how, for example, your pokemon can't hold an item you don't actually have in online play, your pokemon can't use moves they don't know for online play, or you can't use a pokemon you don't actually have for online play. Perhaps you're right. The game files that were datamined in LG Pikachu/Eevee had Meltan tagged with the number "891". Zeraora (who is the last 7th gen pokemon that's obtainable in Ultra Sun/Moon's pokedex) was tagged with the number "807" in the Pikachu/Eevee files. Which is also the same number as Zeraora's national pokedex #.

Nintendo saying that Sword/Shield will be the first 8th generation games, which heavily implies that Pikachu/Eevee aren't the first.
I think for right now, sites like Serebii/Bulbapedia erroneously list Meltan/Melmetal as 7th gen legendaries because they Did first appear in the 7th gen games, Pikachu/Eevee. The reason for why Meltan/Melmetal's files are listed like # "891" is probably in case Game Freak wants to let players transfer their pokemon caught in Pikachu/Eevee and trade them up to Sword/Shield. After all, Grookey and Meltan can't both share the "808" national pokedex # slot at the same time. And Grookey probably had dibs on being #808 in advance. Hmm. Good point. The national pokedex only goes up to like 807 right now. The Mega evolutions, Alolan forms, and other alternate models probably make up the extra 80+ numbers you see in the 892 Pikachu/Eevee files. Pokemon like regular Gengar and Mega Gengar technically share the same national dex #, but have very different 3D models. Their models are probably listed back-to-back in the Pikachu/Eevee files, like Gengar being "pm0094" and M Gengar following as "pm0095" for example.

What are the odds of Pokémon adopting an action manga visual style? Like in battle there's a pop-up panel that shows the trainer flinching when their Pokémon is near death or one-shotted. A neat touch in battle would be the first turn where the trainer with the fastest Pokémon points a command. Then the screen transitions to the Pokémon performing the move. You can even make an illusion where you show a Pokémon take a few steps forward, cut a second later to where they are in attack range of the opponent, then attack with a physical move before showing the Pokémon run back to their side. If HP drops quickly before the Pokémon is in the reset position then cut to the other Pokémon, if using a physical move to pursue that attacked it first. It gives the illusion of momentum with trading blows. If the counter attack is a ranged move then show the target turning around before taking the hit. As for misses I say play the animation anyway but show the Pokémon dodging or blocking the blow.
