I know Starfox Adventures has a very shallow version of it (just lower price until the shopkeeper said no then go back up and that would be the lowest you could get X item for the rest of game basically, since it had unlimited stock I think) but is their any sort of haggling with a shopkeeper (an AI, not another player) who is truly trying to move stock and when needing to get rid of it would be willing to lower prices or recognizing the player and trying to sell for higher since they are a regular customer?

You probably have a faulty cable and/or power receptacle in the PSP. Check the cable with a multimeter, then test it on a psp, then try to charge the psp on a new cable and see what amount of current it draws. I don't know this value by heart, but it should be easy to find online. If that doesn't work, disassemble it and remove the battery. This hard reset always works for my PSP 1000 when it crashed.

I remember a game from probably 1995~98 ish release range that was 3d, whether full or with prerendered backdrops I wouldn't be able to remember, that had a bit where you were some guy who was either wearing a helmet or was a robot in space trying to get past an electric fence as one of the first obstacles. You could leave Windows as an always offline system that you concede is probably infected, and then happily play all the pirated games you want on it, and then use Linux for everything else.

As for games on Linux, the selection of native games is significantly lacking, but it's getting better. Running Windows games through WINE has also gotten significantly more viable of an option recently, due in part to Valve contributing in the form of their Steamplay/Proton thing, and translating DirectX into Vulkan code. There's some overhead though, so nothing is gonna run as fast as it would under Windows on the same machine. Although it's worth noting that this doesn't really hold true in terms of RAM. Windows itself eats way more memory when idle than any Linux configuration I'm aware of

However, As far as WINE goes, it's historically /not/ been retard friendly. Even if a game can run well under WINE, it might require a significant amount of fiddling and configuration with WINE to get it to. But, if you use Steam, the aforementioned Steamplay (which uses Proton, which is essentially a spiced up WINE fork), it more or less just works. Using this, about half of Steam's catalogue can run well under Linux with virtually no technical expertise needed, which is quite a milestone. It /might/ be possible to get Proton to run non-steam games, but I haven't looked into it.

If you want to run pirated games, it's very important to be aware of WINE's eponymous acronym: Wine Is Not An Emulator. In theory, you are exposing your Linux machine to be just as vulnerable to malware as if you were running it under Windows. In practice though, there's a fair chance you'll be fine. You need to make sure your WINE config isn't exposing your whole Linux filesystem to Windows programs (the PlayOnLinux frontend fixes this by default I believe, but it's always been a buggy piece of shit in my experience). Additionally, it's probably also wise to disconnect from the Internet while playing the game, just in case. Windows malware is most likely to attack weaknesses and quirks specific to a real Windows system, not just the parts of the API that WINE implements, so there's a decent enough chance you're not gonna get infected, as long as, again, you remember to NOT have your whole filesystem mounted inside WINE.

For a retard friendly distro that exposes a very Windows esque GUI by default, Linux Mint is the way to go. Ubuntu will be less intuitive to a Windows user, but is still very easy to set up.

How do I stop Linux from grinding my HDD into dust? When Firefox loads something big and uses up all physical memory, the whole desktop freezes and the HDD goes into overdrive, for at least several minutes, if it can even recover. It's like the kernel resized the disk cache to zero and keeps reloading every executable file from the HDD. Swapfile/partition is irrelevant, the same grind happens when it is disabled. I tried to research this, but found nothing useful other than some reports with the same symptoms, and every response tried to cure a different problem other than this memory manager failure. I remember Win98 had options for disk cache size limits, Linux seems to be "I know better than you, let me kill your hardware".

It SHOULD, but the earliest the oomkiller does anything is after several minutes of grinding. I usually go for a forced poweroff because the system is unusable with a 30sec lag for any input, even just updating the mouse cursor.

I tried several things. Some command line thing to disable it ("swapon" maybe?), used a partition editor to make it smaller, removed the partition. None of that had any effect on the grind episodes.

In something like 1 out of 5 cases the grind lasts less than 30 seconds and the oomkiller does something (a coin toss between Firefox or the X-server being killed). I looked at swap usage %, and it did not change, it's like nothing was pushed to swap, not even background processes.

It happens only when RAM is used up. Otherwise the HDD seems fine.

Last time I looked there wasn't anything suspicious. And I was looking regularly, to check on that too frequent head unloading problem that can kill a laptop HDD in less than a year if not supressed.

Firefox loading enormous JPEGs because some stupid page embeds several of them without previews, Blender handling a big and complex project, an image viewer fully decompressing a large GIF into memory. It's an older laptop with only 2GB RAM, and that's filled very easily these days. If I'm juggling the memory use, I can mostly avoid triggering it, but sometimes it still happens with some stupid website or when I'm too sleepy to pay attention.

you could try palemoon or auto tab discard addon/tuned .ini to keep the memory lower. there's probably a way to force a ram flush when programs go out of line, but then I'm not that deep into linux. I've heard it handles memory better than windows (but then anything is really), so not sure if it's really needed on there.

also check how much ram is actually commited which means at some point grinding is inevitable - windows like to keep shit open just in case to the point it suddenly swaps shit from processes that have been closed for over 2 days.

in the long run more ram might be the best option if you can grab some cheap.

Never played Shogun II that much. When I did it was the expansion with darthmod. People that play shogun II usually say darthmod is shit and Master of Strategy Mod (MOS) is quite good. The smaller the map, the more important getting early creatures is. Bigger maps you'll want to try to get a stronger economy going. Know which creatures are worth going for: Necro wants Vampire Lords asap, Tower wants Master Gremlins and Mages, etc, etc. Might heroes scale better, Magic heroes with strong spells tend to do well early on. Logistics is overpowered, especially the specialists. Under normal circumstances, you should never have your main hero tagging stuff or running back to town to pick up new creatures. Your map movement speed is your most important resource, don't waste it. With that being said, Town Portal, Dimension Door, and Flight are the best spells in the game. Your second most important resources are your armies. If you're fighting neutral stacks and taking casualties, you're generally doing something wrong. Inferno sucks, learn the other towns first.

I've been playing MOS today and I seem to have a negative unrest balance (so unrest should be going down) but it isn't. I've only got a few towns currently and they've all god camps which reduce unrest by .5 and increase it by .3 (why does everything seem to increase AND decrease unrest?) yet my Buddhism is going down and unrest up. There seems to be some time based swapping (and I can't remember if swappiness has any effect on that). I remember regularly watching swap%, and even with no memory pressure (just a light-weight text-editor through several suspends for days), after about a day swap% went above zero. I guess that incantation resets the timers.

Also, I found that any ramdrives (like the usual /dev/shm) are not included in RAM usage %, but included in swap% and take physical memory. That's a hidden chunk that can suddenly trigger a grind episode at lower than expected RAM usage %.

From various news I gathered that Con Kolivas stopped doing kernel-dev because the other devs do not give a fuck about the desktop experience. Seems like the core team is developing for servers. Throw in the invasion of politics, and it looks like the year of the Linux desktop meme won't be invalidated any time soon.

Hoo boy. You don't even want to know how bad it is with full disk encryption. If you do that, swap file encryption is mandatory. But, if you ever get to the point of needing it, the system effectively needs to be power cycled. It's for that reason my main system is an ancient Thinkpad but yet it has 8GB RAM. I only very rarely hit this though, it's largely when some program starts mis-behaving. My main hedge is to set swappiness to something extremely low. But there may be some stuff in /etc/limits.d that can be adjusted too.

Sadly, web browsers are fucking cancer when it comes to memory eating. I could probably close it and go from 2.2GB to like 1/5th that. And I'm not even doing major strip-down on my OS. I use Xfce.

I assume that the embalming process they do to draugr renders their nerves as destroyed as your average zombie.

Still, if they're actually possessed by spirits or the like then perhaps they can also feel pain through some sort of aura being damaged by weapons. If that's the case then bladed weapons should be roughly as effective as they would be on a living target.

Of course IRL maces and warhammers can just as easily fuck you up as a sword if they connect, its just that swords get blocked by armor and wont transmit as much energy as a club would.

It's alright, if only for the modes that aren't the main focus of the game. Otherwise, if you haven't played an ASSFAGGOT before, imagine 10~15 minutes of staring at a lane with an enemy you can't fight because you might get ganked, then the "teamfight" phase begins where the idiots who fucked up more during those 15 minutes get their asses handed to them while their team screeches in rage, surrenders, and does it all over again. If it's with friends, it's more fun but I believe there are better options.

I ended up torrenting horriblesubs as it had the most seeders, I have nothing to compare it to but the translation doesn't seem out of place it's not awkward or anything it's good. I found one site comparing the different sub groups and generally they were pretty much the same just different wording at times which made it feel more natural.
