Do AAA companies hire talented indie devs they see from twitter or youtube making fan games?

6e1a3d  No.16157901

>>16157892

No they usually hire because either they sucked the dick or were friends with whoever sucked the dick of some upper mid-level exec

6452d6  No.16157908

the only thing AAA companies send fangame devs is a C&D letter

Make a few good Doom wads, you'll get hired by Valve and then get paid to do nothing.

5e045b  No.16157934

>>16157901

They also hire from certain art schools if they have a reputation for 3d modelling and design

parajews hire modders of their games sometimes, and the modders then proceed to be absolute cancer that shovels out shit

6cc5b0  No.16158052

No. They hire friends or people that have been vetted by their clique. If you want to be AAA yourself, you have to go through the long and hard way of making good games or be good at scamming people out of their money.

26d50a  No.16158065

I know 3DRealms and Valve have done this in the past, but Sonic Mania is the only recent case I know of.

Catladyocracy/pajeetocracy seems to be the norm.

Was going to say that too. Didn't Capcom hire the people behind the fan version of REmake2 to work on the real deal, as well?

>basically a coin toss whether it either gets you into the industry or gets you a c&d

No.

Why did you post a blank picture?

Capcom picked up Street Fighter X Mega Man. Sega got the guys behind Mania. Valve got the team of Portal for their work on a similar game called Narbacular Drop.

I'm betting that the main reason successful indie devs don't get jobs at big companies isn't because of clique shit, but because they've already succeeded at the hardest part of gamedev, getting noticed, and they have no reason to apply for a job that provides way less money and freedom just so they can climb the ladder. If someone like Pixel, Notch, or Toby Fox applied at a major company, the higher ups would be happy to give them a spot just so they could market a game using their star power, like "FROM THE MIND THAT BROUGHT YOU CAVE STORY." An HR person would also easily hire them in hopes they could introduce them into their personal clique and brag about knowing them. Maybe not Notch.

>>16158082

It looks like a C&D is what killed Shanghai.EXE, a Mega Man Battle Network fan game, which is the exact opposite of what Capcom did with Street Fighter X Mega Man. It's a gamble even when dealing with the exact same company and franchise.

Valve hires people to not make games.

000000  No.16158815

>>16157892

That does happen these days, minus the talented part, plus the networking part. AAA has no real sense of standards these days, so SJW purity tests are their new standards, and it's a standard devoid of quality.

The old-fashioned way of making your own game or a particularly good mod also works, but it tends to get you a foot in the door at different studios.

I may be talking out of the ass but it probably goes like this:

>Subsector

>AAA

>Indies

>Programming

>Generic hiring process, but under condition that there are more people competing for a place compared to a job in tech for anywhere else (thus horrible work conditions and underpayment)

>If an additional programmer is needed, then he is either picked from mod authors of games related to the indie group, indie game creators related to the genre of the game developed or are picked from acquaintances knowledgeable in programming (if underpaid, then generally not because of the market conditions)

>Visual\Audio design

>Split in three, 1. are contract jobs with professional studios 2. prominent figures of the industry 3. promising talented college grads (2. overpaid; 3. overworked)

>Contract jobs with indie artists that under some circumstances may end up working for the company

>Managerial, social, game design positions

>Jack of all trades susceptible to licking ass or sucking cock, due to toxic conditions only the most resiliently dense and batshit insane types remain

>Either picked from existing informal group leads, acquaintances or through generic hiring process, which may attract rejects and failures of the AAA environment

So to answer your question, no, yes and the question is all wrong due to complete lack of understanding of how big companies work.

If the applied for a job, they would get hired. That's how it works you dumbass faggot. Why would indie devs apply for a job in an AAA studio when they already have a profession and are already famous for it?

Valve hired a bunch of well known modders to work on the level design of Half-Life when they were just starting out, but in recent times only Sega is so lacking in talent and desperate enough to do this.

7659f9  No.16164706

>>16164693

I see hiring modders as a smart move rather than a desperate one, they know your engine and like your games which makes them better than 90% of the "qualified" people IMO.

5ed3f7  No.16164772

>>16164038

Yeah.

Even more so in times where these companies are desperate to cut costs and you may be fired for another studios fuck-up if you are not a part of the main team.

Or you loose your job because one of your bosses is a retard SJW that causes the game to tank with a single interview.

Why board a sinking cruise ship instead of staying on your perfectly fine little fish trawler that could be expanded into something bigger if you are talented and a bit lucky ?
