Don't you love those moments in games where all of a sudden shit happens that surprises you, can't be undone and generally shakes up what you thought was safe moments?
For example i'm playing Hollow Knight and beat the optional Vessel Boss down in the ancient basin, went back to town and noticed the entrance to the first area was glowing orange and got this fucking nightmare vision out of nowhere. No fanfare that it happened. No cutscene. Just things got worse and can't be fixed.
Sometimes a sequel does it like going to the hero of Fable 1's hometown in 2 decades later and its a rotten swamp full of ruins and tormented spirits but whats your favourite 'dramatic change' a location goes through in a game?

further on this, bloodborne being one of my favorites, I really enjoyed the first time you go to Yhargul, The Unseen Village. You get bagged, and there is simply a note on the ground that progresses the plot. That, and the idea of Flora/Moon Presence using the Church (again, through notes and a bit of dialogue) as a means of chess to kill the other Great Ones.
Non-FROM related (because that could be a whole thread, I would say that when I was young one of the first games I played on GBA was Fire Emblem. It was my first intro into tactics/SRPGs so when the character died and didn't come back, I genuinely felt bad. I restarted and learned to play more effectively.

This was me with Jagged Alliance. The sting that plays when a merc dies as their portrait changes to a skull still gives me shivers. Even worse, reputation matters in that game, and if you have a high death rate then mercs will flatly refuse to work for you.

later games have you just 'win' even if you fail the "final card", which is pretty hard to point out if it's bad or good.

Lost Kin ain't optional, you need to beat him to get the double jump, without it you can't acces the area in City of Tears where Lurien the Watcher sleeps, and without killing Lurien you can't acces the Black Egg Temple to fight Hollow Knight
even if you are going for the bad ending and not completing the game, you still need to go through Lost Kin is you wanna fight the final boss

This is more like one of those moments I wish were in the game, but it was cut out. Oceiros, the Consumed King was supposed to be holding a baby named Ocelotte in his hand during the fight. In his second phase, he was supposed to smash the infant in his fit of rage against you, still calling out to his child because he didn't even realize what he had done. Interestingly, the baby being cut has led to two pretty cool interpretations. The first being that the "Consumed King" bit is referring to his overwhelming grief and loss of sanity. He's hallucinating his baby being there and realizes halfway through the fight that it died long ago. The other is that the baby has powers like that of Priscilla and is just merely invisible. Either way, the boss felt like leftovers from Bloodborne, but I still enjoyed it.
