What are some genuinely bullshit levels, sections of levels, bosses, or enemies in gaming? I'm talking poorly designed bullshit like Bed of Chaos from Dark Souls, complete failures in game design and mechanics. It can be from games that are actually pretty good otherwise.

What the fuck is Miyazaki's fetish for poison swamps that slow you down to a crawl? What is FROM's fetish for forcing the player to inflict status effects upon themselves to get items? The underside of Nightmare Frontier especially is just a labyrinth of poison bullshit and the items aren't worth the resources you have to waste to get them. The poison slows you down despite not even being ankle deep. Farron keep is the underside of Nightmare Frontier made into an entire level rather than just being a section of it. It's saving grace is that the Abyss Watchers is a great fight. And I know Miyazaki didn't direct DaS2, but Iron Keep followed the same philosophy of "LOL you have to take environmental damage to get the useless items LOL enjoy these status effects LOL I sure hope you leveled up your resistances LOL"

Amygdala is actually a good boss, but her jump attack specifically is complete bullshit

If the point of an attack is to dodge it, why would you make it so that the player can't keep visual track of the attack and has no means to anticipate when it will even land? Dodging it is a complete crapshoot. There are strategies to either stand still or walk towards the direction her tail was pointing, but they aren't definite means of dodging. The attack is also a one shot kill, so if you happen to guess wrong on the attack you can't fucking see, you have to start all over.

Isn't the dispelling ring+1 plus flame quartz ring+3 (both of which are available immediately after Iron Keep) plus being wet plus flash sweat (which has no requirements since there's attunement slot rings) enough to get you to 900 fire defense, which reduces the damage from the lava by 99%? Sure, you'll take some damage, but you'd have several minutes without healing before you died.

Pure Land in Secret of Mana. They just ramp up the enemies' attack/hp drastically out of nowhere, forcing you to grind, spam healing spells/items, exit to rest, and repeat until you can get through it. It's not impossible or anything, just an annoying dick around that fucks up the flow of the game.

Etrian Odyssey 1 - Sandy Barrens (fourth stratum). For anyone who doesn't know the game - you have to clear the whole stratum in one sitting; if you want to save the game you have to go back to town. There's five floors. The enemies on the last floor are stupidly strong; when you first meet them you will only maybe beat two or three before having to go back to town. What's the catch? The quest requires you to beat the boss of that stratum, but he WILL FUCKING RESPAWN if all his minions on the floor aren't killed.

Up until this moment in the game, item cost was pretty managable - you could buy everything you wanted. But here, you have weak fucking items and the stronger ones cost like 50000 - and without those you can't hope to beat the floor. That means clearing five long floors to get to the bottom, killing a few enemies, selling their drops, going back to town, rinse and repeat until you are strong enough. Grindy as fuck in a game that has avoided the grind problem until then.

Amygdala is only hard in the defiled chalice when you get one shot by most of her attacks. Otherwise I found her far easier in comparison to Darkbeast Paarl, Bloodletting Beast, Martyr Lorgarius, Ebrietas, Pthumerian Elder, and all the DLC bosses. You can dodge her jumping attack by running towards the previous location of her tail, and rolling forward right before she hits the ground. Make sure you do this in a straight line though, her arms can crush you if you stray a little to the left or right. Also poison levels are pretty simple games of resource management, and it’s hilarious to see people panic when you invade in them.

>boss usually has some huge telegraphed moves you have to dodge or you get blasted to chinese hell in one shot

>there's lightning going off, explosions, giant cats with laser swords, giant blasts of water, your UI getting obscured by combo indicators, fire effects, rocks flying all over the screen

>but the "boss is doing a big move you need to dodge" indicator is on the fucking ground and goes below player models and all of their ability effects

>add to this the fact that the game barely runs and your framerate drops to a solid 11 in these situations

>just make an Asura character

>they're much smaller than the other playermodels

>their weapons are also smaller so you can't really get a read on what move they're doing unless you're keeping track of them

>keeping track of them in a fight where ten people are spamming AOE bullshit attacks, flying all over the screen with speed buffs and leap moves, dropping framerate destroying particle effects and generally making a massive clusterfuck of it

>the "bad shit indicators are on the bottom layer of the floor" problem is even worse here

>play as a Charr holosmith so I'm both bigger than all of the other people in the matches and I glow neon orange when I'm using my class ability so I always get focused first

Farron Keep is a bad level, but it's too short (if you know what you're doing) to really be annoying. Estus shard -> first tower -> second tower -> bonfire -> bone shard -> third tower and you're done with the main content. Add two more trips for sorcery shit and Watchdog. You can basically run in two straight lines without even bothering with any of the enemies. I always see it as just an item dump I'll take before I even do the cathedral

This minigame pissed me off so much, I gave up on beating it a long time ago. Bullet hell Zelda is cheap as fucking hell.

If you outlast the clock, you unlock a secret big cucco that gives out hearts. It also makes a cameo in the ending credits. I loved Link Between Worlds but it pains me to know I never 100%ed it. Every time I walk past that cucco stable, I'm reminded at how utter bullshit this minigame was.

That boss and its laser shooting variations is called "Amygdala" for a reason. It keeps the inexperienced players in distress and fear exactly with features like grabbing your faggot ass, throwing a tantrum or jumping too high for you to see.

Also the real bullshit is its chalice dungeon version. It can one hit kill you with its "basic" attacks if you are unlucky, bad at dodging or you haven't invested a shit ton of levels into your HP. Makes everything especially awkward if you get summoned to help but you get killed too soon.

Card City Nights. I got it for free from a friend, and it was a cute little time waster for a few hours, but holy fuck the last boss is such a goddamn whore.

I've only had two issues with the world / group events in GW2:

>boss attacks are insta-kills if they hit you, but the screen is so busy with bullshit you can't see the AOE boundaries

>In PoF, the bounties can get impossible combinations of boss perks that make them unkillable

Had a fucking bounty as part of an Ascended Weapon hunt on my Deadeye, and he got the 'You can't hit me at range' and 'you take static damage unless you run into these nearby orbs' shit. Twenty people got their shit slapped for fifteen minutes.

After some dicey body recovery missions I sealed the place up for some reprieve, I was sweating bullets throughout, my operation up top was idyllic, running like a well oiled machine and that one alloyed fucker threatened to ruin it from the asshole up.

On the downside I lost half my army and deeply traumatised about another third of it, on the plus side everyone got lord levels of training beating his metallic ass for 93 days straight, by the end my doctors were fucking wizards capable of patching any mess up. The 4 guys who lost limbs or hands/feet haunted me whenever I stumbled on them afterwards, a one armed guy etched the walls in the new hospital wing with typically surreal half joyous half mad art depicting the eterno fight, and a dorfett who lost a foot later became a very capable if a bit slow bone doctor.

Prepare to face the wrath of my BULLSHIT-SCORPIONS! Fuck these fucking faggots and fuck Liquid Snake for making them. They deal incredible amounts of damage that bypass any type of armor except Elite Riot Gear but by the time you get that, you have no reason to return to Big MT. They have sponge levels of health and armor making the K9 and other peashitters they hand out useless. They explode on death at the worst times such as when you're in a hallway standing on a pile of their robo-corpses or during looting them, waiting for you to grab their precious sensor modules. They sit around in groups up to 7 or 8, all varying in sizes which affects their health, damage and speed. At least you don't have to fight the fuckhueg one at the end of the DLC and can bypass it completely.

I just didn't have the willpower at the time to force myself through and I don't revisit DS2 often, has to have been years now. It is not fun to feel like your character is moving through mud at all times when enemies are often zippy, fast-turning bastards with lodsepoise that often need to be fought with bland caution.

Even less so when they are flying lightning dragodeer that as far as I know don't despawn if you run from them, have a dozen or more giant spawning radiuses, and need to be killed ten times each to clear the way for an at best four minute walk to a recycled double boss. No you don't. I dived back into that Stratum repeatedly. Hell, you need multiple trips because there's no way you're plowing through the high-level FOE gauntlet that leads to the previous stratum.

The story-driven content can be broken up and you don't even need to push it. Floor 3 (or 4—it's been a while) needs a direct encounter with the wild folk boss before they flee tot he next floor, and you run into nothing but those plant folks on that floor until you trigger that event. But that event can be put off until your party's up to snuff (which they already long-since should be if you're exploring and taking bar missions)

By that point in time, I had several high-level items though, because I took on the five-night quest involving the Wyvern and explored the fuck out the previous stratums. You sholdn't have had weak equips by then or a weak party unless you were deliberately min-maxing.

It's fun until you get to Iron Keep and Brume. All the enemies and bosses there have monstrous fire resist. In Iron Keep you can get away with raw weapons and status effects but by Brume you really need to have invested into another kind of magic or the far more useful option of an actual weapon. Pyromancy works better as a supplement than a main damage source anyway. Either by a mage specialized in a different kind of magic to get full damage out of pyromancy or as a no-investment fallback for a melee character.

If you want real fun, go 60 int 60 fai and play pokemon with enemy weaknesses. Remember that blinding bolt and heavenly thunder are actually really fucking damaging and that lightning spear gets an unexplainable massive scaling boost above 30 faith.

From my experience Vicar Amelia and Shadows of Yharnam were the only bosses from the main game I'd put under bull shit. Vicar Amelia has a ton of health and she doesn't give very long windows to counter attack. She also heals, and even if you use anti heal items she still gets back a good amount of health at the start of the move. The shadows are really the kings of bullshit though. Multiple enemies at one time has never really suited the souls style very well, and they're pretty bad about abusing that. The first phase isn't too bad, but when you get one to half health and they transform the fight is just awful. If you didn't manage to kill one during their transformation, then you're completely fucked. Even if there are only 2 alive, getting chip damage in without getting hit is a real challenge. They tend to stick together, and the quick attack with their stretchy arms can be really bad. When you kill 2 the fuck you snake comes out of nowhere to end the fight because things were going too well for you. Amelia is basically the bullshit defense boss and snakes are the bullshit offense boss. If your offensive and defensive stats aren't good both of those bosses will make you suffer, and they're definitely the hardest ones to kill as a base level waste of skin in the ng+s.

The one outside of the chalice dungeons isn't hard at all if you know what you're doing. Each of his legs has a health pool, and when you deplete the pool for a leg he falls on the ground and sits there for a while. You can damage another leg while he is stunned, and the health is low enough that you should be able to break it entirely with an appropriate weapon. You end up getting an obscenely long period of time to just beat on him if you chain break all four legs. Beast pellets work insanely well on him due to that, and he should be pretty much dead by the time he finally gets up if you do it right. The enhanced health pool on the chalice dungeon version makes the fight a lot harder, but he still isn't quite as bad as abhorrent beast or some of the others.

Here's what you do, my man.

>jump down

>watch him pose for a bit

>run as far away as you can when he does his hissy fit 'Fuck everything' combo attack, but start closing in as the attack comes to an end

>do not lock on, ever

>he'll have just a few moments of rest and that's where you're supposed to get some hits on his head

>back away after you get some hits in and keep maintaining your distance during all of his attacks, paying close attention to what he's about to do

>don't bother trying to get a hit in during his headbutt lunge attack, just roll to the side

>he has that one attack where he breathes fire, cuts it short, and then breathes out bigger flames

>keep your distance as usual, but start closing in as that second flame attack comes around, get some hits on his head, you can get 2 or 3 pretty safely

>if at any point you fuck up and he gets really close to you, run in a diagonal directions towards his tail (meaning you run through the space between his tail and foot) and make distance

>stay the fuck away from that laser attack

>roll to the side for that attack where he stands, roars, and tries to bite you in half

>not too sure about the fire fly-by, just do your best

>most of his attacks are the same, but it seems like he does the hissy fit attack more often if you get too far from him

>when he's starting up that laser attack where he stands and blasts everything in the room, close in during the charge up, dodge, and try to get behind his feet

>he takes a huge rest after that, so get as many hits in as possible

>spam roll to avoid the purple shit that rises out from the ground

>once you get to the last 1/5th of his health, you should be able to break his poise and open him up for a front-stab

>last sliver of health, there's actually a chance for a second front-stab so stick close and take it

Whenever a goddamn, shit eating, forced stealth section is introduced I inmediately sigh and prepare myself for some extended bullshit. Topical example: Sherry's section in REmake 2. At the risk of getting accused of being a shill, I quite enjoyed REmake 2. It has its fair share of problems, but it didn't sour the experience for me.

But then, I arrive at Sherry's section in the generic creepy orphanage were you need to hide from Chief Irons. Boy oh boy do I love memorizing an overlong, boring sequence of animation cues in order to progress with my fucking videogame. But hey maybe if you're quick you could lose him once he spots you, right? Like fuck you could. He dashes towards you faster than Birkin or the Tyrant ever do, triggering a game over so you can enjoy this section again.

What's the purpose of this? Breaking up the action? That's like saying that you're eating your fish and chips too quickly, so eat a few slices of plague rat, so you can break up your lunch. It's retarded. At least Ada's segment is slightly more bearable since it builds from existing mechanics (not that it isn't dogshit but it's more bearable than

Sherry's).

Not only that, auras aren't affected by resistances, so even if you're high level and have shit like high cold resistance (or inmunity) or Cannot Be Frozen, it matters jack shit. Enjoy getting frozen and wishing your PC had a higher attack speed. This is one of the reasons I invariably go with Burts of Speed with Assassins.

Run to the left.

I was stuck on Midir for hours in my first attempt (in my defense, it was NG+3) but eventually learned how to fight. He's not hard just absurdly tedious because you'll be spending most of the time running around the area. Golden rule is basically to always stay in front of him at mid-range to bait his melee attacks or fire breath and also null his tail whip. Basically - only attack the head. If you summon help and they don't know this, you're fucked because they'll run around him, peck his legs and GIANT TAIL OUT OF FUCKIN' NOWHERE will kill everyone.

Alternatively, if you have a character with some INT, just equip the Zyklon B spell and gas that faggot to death.

Anyway, pic related is my nemesis. For me, it's possibly the hardest boss in the extended series. Always take ages to beat him and I feel like I never learned a damn thing. He's got more moves than a Virtua Fighter character, everything hits for at least 80% HP if it doesn't outright kill you, lingering hitboxes give cover to what would be big openings and almost everything he does has been mathematically perfected to roll catch your ass.

Since I'm finishing Etrian Odyssey, let me mention this fuck (and his two brothers). THE ONLY WAY TO BEAT THEM IS BY HAVING THE SPECIFIC ANTI-ELEMENT SKILL (anti-volt, anti-cold or anti-fire at level 5). Otherwise, it's full party wipe by the dragon's elemental attack and there is nothing you can do. On the other hand, anti-element skills prevent the damage COMPLETELY and make the bosses about as tough as a Woodfly. Even though there are other anti-element skills and equipment, these do not prevent enough damage to avoid a full party wipe. If you don't have the necessary skills, prepare to rest your Protector (-10 levels) to get them.

Yes, it's stupid, that's why they make the elemental breaths less bullshit by either giving you more tools to deal with them or simply nerfing the shit out of them (in Nexus, even the frailest classes can easily survive a hit) in the sequels. Also I can't remember how it's like in EO1, assuming that you can go before the enemy, head binds or ailments are also options. That said,

To be fair, what else are you going to use a protector for? It pretty much goes without saying that you would want skills to negate elemental attacks and the elemental walls can be left at five skill points each. Well I had a protector for the whole game but just didn't get the elemental skills, because they weren't needed since everything attacked physically (or if they did elemental attacks, then I didn't think they did enough damage to bother with those skills).

In fact I had to rest my protector TWICE. Because at first I leveled up the Provoke skill, thinking it will help me protect my weak troubador and mage, but it didn't seem to do shit? Same with En Garde. I instead got Smite up to level 10 and put more into HP, Def and Cure II. But then in the end I had to dump it all for the anti-element skills.

Actually I think they've done well until these bullshit elemental party wipe dragons. I mean people say you need Immunize and Defender, but I've had neither of those (didn't play with a guide) and didn't have a problem until these dumbshit elemental dragons.
