All shitty writing aside (as well as the whole human VR mechanics gimmick like biting onto your enemy's neck), how viable or balanced can a shooter be when you can have an avatar of different size as well as RPG elements like stats affecting your loadout capacity and your movement speed?

As a co-op shooter it might work out just fine, but as a PvP game it would border on bullshit unless it had universal hotboxes like Quake but even then the visible player models is still a tiny shit. However if the base gameplay is fun & isn't ruined by e-sports balance faggotry you could probably get away with some shit.

Your starting point is wrong. You should ask how viable an open world MMO FPS is from a technical standpoint.

Planetside did this, right?

eSports sorts itself out in the best cases, I would rather have more focus on balancing the avatar size issue if only to allow people to just mess around playing pink loli shooter, I can only imagine size would cap stats like strength and health to compensate the difficulty of shooting them, not to mention their inability to carry larger weapons like sniper rifles and the like, also, ammo reserves.

>>16136942

I wouldn't go as far as open world MMO without testing the viability of something like a "battle royale" shooter with those gimmicks first, that is, nothing on the scale of those, 180 players total (30 teams of 6 or less players) at most.

According to every hero shooter out there, it works.

>>16137079

Well, at least in this case there wouldn't be things like abilities like in hero shooters, just good old rocket jumping maybe.

There would have to be a drawback when using a smaller avatar. By RPG elements do you mean that you gain levels and increase your stats or that everybody has the same amount of skill points to distribute?

000000  No.16137102

>>16137081

Well as mentioned above, if you use gear restrictions, it could still work. Noone's going to complain that the loli isn't lugging around Heavy's Sasha.

cdb398  No.16137104

How balanced? What the fuck do you mean 'balanced"? Nigger if I load up a game that lets me play a loli with a pink gun, I don't give a fuck how balanced it is. Games like that should be utterly absurd. Everyone should be as overpowered or underpowered as possible.

>>16137102

Maybe not leveling up, even if GGO seems to have a leveling system of sorts I think it would basically be something more akin to Warframe where you have some kind of limited point capacity while building your character (or multiple characters) and balancing their stats around, let's say Llenn would have limited strength but enough to carry her P90 plus a knife and six extra magazines without crippling her insane movement speed.

>>16137104

As someone pointed above, only enough as to not allow the loli to carry around a minigun while still being able to move like The Flash.

You need the scale of a MMORPG, which is thousands of players ideally. At the same time, in the same world instance.

> girls playing competitive shooters

> being anything other than total scrubs

I mean let's be honest girls have slower reaction time than boys and generally just prefer relaxed and comfy games rather than twitch shooters. Shoehorning girls into a boy's club under the guise of "not being sexist" is just insipid equality pandering and ignoring the biological fact that girls and boys have different preferences. Watch the documentary "Hjernevask".

Fuck no. Overpowered is the way to go, underpowered is just tedious.

IIRC most of those girls are guys.

Who's talking about girls, you dumb nigger. Stay in your containment hole.

What does that have to do with anything in this topic? the animu is a different thing, I am just talking about the mechanics.

> how viable or balanced can a shooter be when you can have an avatar of different size as well as RPG elements like stats affecting your loadout capacity and your movement speed

Potentially viable, just depends on how it's balanced. As a thought experiment, using real-world physics, physiology, and technology, what would you consider be the likelyhood of your survival fighting through an abandoned city filled with enemy forces given the body of (A) a moderately athletic 25-year-old male, and (B) a moderately athletic 15-year-old girl.
