The stealth kill from Aliens and Predators requires engaging from the back though, so I'm not sure how reliable that is in multiplayer, considering most players keep turning around all the time, even more so in an AvP game and they do have a scanner for this kind of shit too.
The Marine melee, if I remember correctly, was a Light Attack. They could also Block but had no Heavy Melee, which means not only they couldn't break blocks, they are vulnerable to counter attacks if someone blocks their rifle butt.
And even then, the point of Marines always has been that if Predators or Aliens try a frontal attack, they'll get fucked by superior firepower. They always have to rely on stealth and flanking to ambush the Marines instead, if you just pounce one when he's looking at you, he will obviously melee you for a cheap stun and then kill you.
I never tried the multiplayer either way since I just pirated the game, but I'd chalk those problems with melee with the game being in beta and nobody yet knowing how to play it very well. Hell, even though the campaign has tutorial levels to teach you about that melee triangle, it's not really necessary to finish the game. Maybe the fight at the end with the Predator/Alien in the arena where you'll get into melee more often, but even then it's not that obvious unless you raise the difficulty and actually ponder why you're getting your ass kicked.
I'd assume this progressed into multiplayer and everyone just used melee like they were in AvP2, while also completely ignoring stealth.

If you have complaints about the game, post them, don't just complain that someone actually wrote something positive about the game, that just makes you look like a salty nigger.
AvP 2010 has it's shortcomings and plenty of issues. I'd still grade it a 7/10 at best. But it has a lot of new ideas compared to the previous games that are indeed pretty good.
The Alien is more focused on stealth instead of spamming pounces for insta gibs.
The Predator lost a lot of weapons, which sucks, but many that he lost were shit for various reasons as I explained and he did gained the jump ability which works far better than I was expecting, making both AvP1 and AvP2 kinda lack luster in comparison.
The Marine would honestly be the lowest point, considering how much less powerfull he is compared to previous games (can only carry 2 guns, way less gun variety, no mechs) and even when compared with other FPS, it's still missing basic shit like crouching or even sprinting.
But the way they handled Health, divided into 3 sections, each capable of regenerating provided you haven't lost it entirely, allowed them to experiment with a lot of new ideas and change the gameplay around a lot. Marines can carry limited medpacks and even Predators have limited healing because of this, creating an item that's more usefull and introduces more resource management and decision making. It also let's you take some risks without being punished too harshly (provided you didn't lost more than 1/3 of your health) and prevents just being plinked away from afar.
Maybe it's not a perfect system, but I found it more interesting than the standard numerical HP and I wish more games did something similar.
