Why are video games STILL $60?
4062f6 No.16120631
They aren't, in order to play the full game you have to spend $30 on DLC or lootboxes.
baacc2 No.16120636
With taxes, it's $65 dollaroos to be exact. Not that fiat money is worth shit in reality.

For the average AAA game you've got:
>corrupt publishers and companies
>cult of personality "developers"
>shady quasi-legal business practices
>bloated feature list and budget
>taxes and regulations
>the joke that is games journalism
and like the other two said, all the DLC and microtransactions added to the business model which increase development time and cost and also mean the full game as intended is more than the base price tag.
I mean, you can find some pretty good AA or old games online for a decent price. The usual indie/sub-AAA price tag is like $20, $30 max.

This. In addition, production costs have mostly likely come down as well, and games no longer come with printed manuals. All you get effectively just just the bare minimum on a disc, and sometime not even that. You have to download the rest of the game from the internet.

this argument is a lie,

It's actually cheaper than in the 80s when they were more than that and the dollar was worth much more. The problem isn't the price itself, it's that these games aren't worth it and they require additional payments for the full experience.

$60 for the base version (stripped of all following content) + $20-1000 day one dlc + $30 per season pass + $50 in "additional" skins and maps + $2 per lootbox unless you want to grind 50 years + good goy tax.

there were only $50 for a short while when sony was trying to brake into the market
pre PlayStation games were $60 - $120 when they came out
now games are broken into pieces and remember ever system has you pay for online services that were free last gen still free on pc.

>Still
t. Underage. In the 90s and earlier (but the 90s especially) some games would launch at up to $80 USD (Super Metroid being one of them). If you put in inflation that'd make Super Metroid cost roughly $125 in today's money BEFORE taxes. Games have gotten cheaper, and no, there is no justification for microtransactions or predatory DLC releases because of that. While the price of games have gone done, the number of buyers has shot through the fucking roof. Before 2000, a game selling more than 2 million copies made it a mega hit. Now we often see AAA sales goals that are triple that as a minimum requirement for success. Not because $60 doesn't go as far as it used to, but because the budgets of these games are being bloated to hell and back.
And for what purpose? Did Destiny really need to spend millions on Peter Dinklage's voice (that they ended up dropping later)? Did Black Flag need to be an assassin's creed game(with all the shitty baggage like tailing missions, forced stealth sequences, etc)? The answer to all of these questions is obviously no. I'm not a big Nintendo fan but I have to admit I like that they're games are notoriously low budget. While they never release what games cost to make, you'll often see them calling the sales of their games a success at 1-2 million sales and that says a lot about their ability to budget their projects and determine what's important.

If I can minimize my spending, then I'll do it. And fuck yuppies who say "I can afford it you poorfags", I can afford to buy a new game too but newsflash, if I don't spend money on a game I can put that money somewhere else more worth it. If you really are this rich and have this mentality of "lol who cares I can afford it", you won't keep that wealth for long.

Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
Also, prices increasing with inflation depends on people making more money, which they don't. It's a weird scenario where the housing market and transport costs are the real bottleneck.

That's not what I meant. You've got the devaluation of currency, yes, but nobody's actually getting an increase in their paycheques to account for it.
Also improvements in technology mean it's always easier and easier to make products and such, so people should be working less and getting paid more for the work. Also not happening, because labour is valueless with globalism and the shipping in of unskilled migrants or specialized migrants, and businesses being risky ventures taxed into oblivion.
The reason why videogames are still 60 dollars is because it's getting cheaper to make them while still siphoning a presumably acceptable sum out of the customer despite their actual value being much higher than their paygrade would deem.
tl;dr everyone's fucking eachother so much that you can't accurately track who is fucking what without help from the IRS.

The reason for people to migrate is more often than not because they are unskilled. Otherwise they'd have opportunities in their own shithole as well.

Secondarily, they don't come for opportunities, they come for the free shit which is absorbed from people that actually work. This is primarily why that, if, when, or something similar to, a race war happens, most of the "migrants" in say, America, will just pack up and leave.

The last game i bought was Witcher 3 on Gog. I always get the "demo" and if the devs are not dicks or suck feminism cunt then i think about buying it.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance was another game i almost bought but it's just not my type of game.
Also any kind of "protection" like denuvo or other shit that i, as the customer, have to put up with is another reason to never buy the game
So in total i buy maybe one or two games per year because most are not worth the money.

The drop in their overall quality is inversely proportional to the rise in inflation, so technically the price has gone up but the product is now so shit it neutralises the hike.
