How many of you have played with the Mod of Balance?
I usually find the GBA version to be piss-easy, but this hack put the fear of G-d back into me.
>wander into Marsh cave at level 7 with a Paladin, Monk, Battlemage, and Sage
>by the time I make it to the second floor everyone's been poisoned or stunned at least once
>remedies cost 600 fucking gold back in town and I'm not going all the way to Pravoka for Mind Balms
>Sage is at half MP, only one that can heal
>get to the third floor, start looting
>random group of zombies manages to stun my entire team and kill them in 2 turns, except for the Paladin who dies in 4 turns
>reload and try again
>get poisoned literally 20 times before I make it to the boss
>Sage is out of MP and healing items
>Paladin eats a 100 damage hit from a piscodemon, his max HP is 230
>there are 3 of them
>get wiped
<reload and go actually prepare to play the game
It's got that sense of freedom that none of the other FFs even really tried to replicate. It's a shame, some of them would really lend themselves to nonlinear progression, given how complex character progression can get in the later ones. I always loved how you could use equipment to cast spells, they should have kept that as the series went on. The white mage is a man you fucking faggots.
