I get that Kojimbo didn't want to make endless MGS sequels, resented being forced to do it anyway, and that he ended up taking out his frustrations on the main character of the series. What I really don't get is how he seemed to be perfectly content to churn out an endless stream of Big Boss games, when the Big Boss character is essentially just a palette swap of Solid Snake. Shit, one mention of Solid Snake and he starts throwing a tantrum, but get Snake out of that sneaking suit and into some cammies and suddenly the guy just can't stop singing his praises. I just don't get it.

It was basically Kojima giving me the finger for liking his games. After ten years of waiting, he finally makes another game with Solid Snake as the main character, and how does he do it? He makes Snake an old man with a bad back who's dying of old age in a world that's changed so much that he's no longer relevant in it anyway. I'll never not be mad about that. Metal Gear Solid should've just been one game, not a series - every time Kojima touched that franchise, he ended up making it worse. The economy never really got better after 2008 unless you fuck with stocks. Wages are still shit and employers still pretend they're gods when you apply for a job despite "low unemployment". If things were really all that great employers would have to compete for labor, and they absolutely do not.
That being said games have gone to shit in terms of quality so people are going after free to play shit instead of blowing their diminishing disposable income on $60 games that suck. Video games are also in a bubble market, a lot of the people spending money on them aren't really lifelong customers.

Hard to say if Apex has any staying power. It's being propped up a lot by a concerted marketing effort to keep it high on Twitch and marketed heavily on the consoles. I think the MTX stuff hasn't been turned on yet either.
The funnier thing to me about Apex is that they launched it what, a week or two before Anthem? Not exactly a vote of confidence for Anthem is it?
