I wish vidya would actually apply these 'time it takes to die' to heart. Putting enemies in fire only for them to collapse 3-5 seconds later (only for the fire to dissipate a few seconds after that, thanks decal limits) when they could've been a glorious human torch for a full minute. Likewise with lethal wounds, having enemies die slowly on the ground while you continue fighting would do a lot more to the actual games, presentation wise. The one game that did that recently was Max Payne 3, but there they demand you execute every last one of them before a door magically opens. Cut throat, same and so on.
