Put some hours into this.
>Pros
>UI is alot more friendly now. Getting things like Sky Stories or Visions of Heaven means I actually know what to do with them now.
>Money can be made a few ways, through reports, through trading or getting stuff off of enemies.
>Locations are static and quests will give general directions to ports for you to trade.
>Combat is somewhat simple, still forward facing guns but now you can dodge and it's over rather quickly.
>Music is pretty good, each town has a unique tune. There was this one part in the Reach where it was raining and I turned off the ambient to listen to it.
Cons:
>The writing, as always, is innuendo as fuck. From what I could piece together, Queen Victoria rose London out of the Sea into the Sky after her Consort died, from there she killed the sun for some mystic reason and has created a new Empire. I still don't know what time is used for or why the entire empire runs on it. None of this is explained to you, you have to pick up snippets here and there which I hate. Just bloody once I wish a character would answer questions about the past or how I ended up here.
>Because I didn't know what I was bloodying doing at first I opened the coffin which caused Jacob inside to turn into salt, for some reason. I reset this paramater and successfully delivered him to London however. I feel alot of this game can be summed up with "For some reason."
>Early game can be a challenge but once you get a more solid ship and more importantly cargo space, you can venture further. Figuring out those trade routes and trade opportunities is key.
>I can feel the SocJus influence seeping in. A few times a character is refereed to "they" when others are refereed to "He" or "She". Now with demons or deformed cultists, sure, but There are acrobats at a circus where this is used and "They are worried for their twin" comes off as weird for me. There's also the Navigator that's female but refereed to "He", might just be a woman dressing as a male to fit into society as that's something this could pick up on but still rubs me the wrong way. I may be jumping at shadows but it is current year +4.
Some tips:
>You can only repair hull in the Center station, so New Winchester or London for example, keep money aside for this and plan accordingly.
>You can attach stuff like mining to get extra resources you can sell. Bronzewood in the Reach sells 175 per bundle.
>The Reach is filled with islands that form natural 'lanes', if you go around one you fill out a heap of map, coversly Albion is entirely sky, requiring you to pick a direction and stick to it to get somewhere.
>Look for trade opposites, fill out a report at the station, then come back and sell both.
>The Grimalkin and Beulah will serve you far.
>Focus on Cargo space, the more you carry the more you profit. But, this also means lower fuel efficiency as it's decided by how much you carry.
>There's only one upgrade for Hull and it's +10, my tier 4 only gives +13 so you're only going to increase hull by going up in ships.
>I haven't figured out what the strength of the Clockwork Sun does yet but keeping it above 50 is probably a good idea.
Pic related is the UI text. It comes down from the center in the text box making it easier to read, it can lag on longer conversations so I recommend going back to port to refresh it. And also look at the right in possessions, those are things you pick up like Sky-Stories. They cut the bullshit down, tell you what they are and where you can get them. The setting may be vague in this but in the Reach you're given directions to a few locations the first time you set off thankfully and if you ever forget what you need you can look this up and see where to get it.
