>“Regarding the Epic Games Store exclusivity, whose prime decision was it?”, I asked although the answer was obvious. “Don’t know for sure but definitely a surprise for 4A. But we are just developers. It’s publishers business”, they wrote. They confirmed that 4A Games was informed about it as soon as the decision was made. However, the developer wasn’t allowed to discuss such matters in public. In my first attempt of asking them when exactly was 4A Games informed about the decision, my source denied a comment. They only agreed to comment after I repeated the question several times.

>“For how long were you informed about the decision?”, “While you can’t comment on the exact date you were informed, tell me how long has it been. A year? Five months? Two years?” and “Was it before E3 2018?” were all sorts of questions I asked.

>It was after E3 2018 when 4A Games was informed about the Epic Games Store exclusivity. Metro Exodus was still a game for Steam in terms of development before that time of period. “Well after that(E3 2018), that’s all I can say”, my source confirmed. The reaction of the employees at the 4A Games studios was mixed. “People are not concerned about money”, they stated. “Everybody [at 4A Games] was sure it(Metro Exodus) was worth it. It’s more about reputation. And people are blaming us [for the decision] though we had nothing to do with it.”

This choice will bite them in the ass.

If they made the game cheaper on Epic Games and keep it at $60 on Steam there wouldn't have been a controversy.

Dealing with China in any capacity bankrupts you in the long run.

583c0f  No.16080439

They already apologized for that one employees remark but I don't think it'll help them. I could understand moving to epic store for your next game or announcing it ahead of time but that was not what they did. They made the switcheroo less than a month before release and had a long time of steam preorders before they did what they did. It was a stupid business mistake that will bite them in the ass. That also doesn't include the fact that they are using denuvo which will net them less buyers on PC on an even smaller market of Epic store. They made a comprimise to honor the existing steam preorders but having to wait 1 year for exclusivity deal for steam will not work in favor of Epic. People primarily on steam can wait 1 year with plenty of backlogs. I don't think I've heard of a 1 year exclusivity deal ever work, even on consoles.

Woah, hey there guy, slow down. Let's not do anything rash and set a dangerous precedent by leading the consumer to believe that cheaper production and distribution costs somehow correlate to cheaper games.

What really get's me about this entire controversy is how they tried to spin it as a good thing for the consumer.

“Epic’s generous revenue terms are a game changer that will allow publishers to invest more into content creation, or pass on savings to the players. By teaming up with Epic we will be able to invest more into the future of Metro and our ongoing partnership with series developer 4A Games, to the benefit of our Metro fans.”

It still cracks me up. Just say you want more cash, people will understand.

You would not believe the amount of retards that believe this shit, AND THEY'RE NOT EVEN COMMUNISTS!!! One Anon encountered a coworker who claims to be a "Hard Right winger", but unironically believes that the idea of the "free market" is a creation of Communist methodology.

back on topic

4a games has proven themselves time and time again as good developers

first with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl while working for GSC, then as 4A with Metro games, i have no doubt they will at least put a lot of effort into their latest titles

they did survive the original collapse of THQ by going to Deep Silver, and now Deep Silver is back under new THQ Nordic, so i understand their situation

Thing is, the current state of the market, locked down with unions and industry blacklists, agreements with brick and mortar stores.

To call it a "Free Market" is laughable. On the bright side, the internet slowly starting to re decentralize again and the unions are starting to be unable to have everything by the balls

just let 4A deal with thq nordic from now on, they don't seem to be that stupid (yet).

583c0f  No.16085417

Well, now even the creator of the Metro series is apologizing with a video. I guess they're not seeing the right numbers for epic pre-orders on PC as they would like and are trying to make a last ditch appeal. Even if you know that the publishers were the ones who made the call to switch so late before release, I don't think anything they say will change these facts: that Epic is still relatively new, not as trusted as steam (how little that is left right now) and as a platform, lacks even a less than a 3rd of what steam has, there is not a whole lot of people clamoring to add epic launcher for just one game. It might be the best game released that week and I don't think Epic can make up for the waning PC interest. They'll have to rely on consoles to make-up for it. Most people would rather wait the year or pay the extra $10 to play on steam.

41df6b  No.16085736

>>16085417

The Epic store is also really terribly laid out. Go to the front page and it's just a bunch of inconsistent icons with price tags. No lists, no search bar, no tags, nothing. No joke launch day newgrounds had more features than this.

>implying it will cost 10 bucks more

not even mentioning that you can usually get shit cheaper on keysites, even legit ones, no one will pay full price for a year old game just because it happens to now show up on the stean store. any dev/publisher who thinks that will work needs a reality check.

speaking of keysites, valve allows to generate for free and sell keys for whatever cut they want wherever the devs want, something epic will never fucking do since it's not in the already reduced cut. reminder those fucks even make you pay the the payment fees, if they even offer regional pricing.

also fucking with the keys in the retail box will cause a fuckload of friction too since plenty of people probably expect a steam key, not some random store they might never heard of that is only mentioned somewhere in the fineprint on the back. good thing epic store doesn't have reviews and only allows communication via tickets ;^)

expect deep silver to carry the cost of those too once they end up in the bargain bin since no one wants boxes with keys they have no use for and/or rather wait a year.

sure, you will always end up with a certain amount of mouthbreathers, it's a statistical inevitability. but no on but switchtards and faggots blindly sucking the LE HARD GAEM meme bought that shit, especially since most people already bought the original back then and finally get pissed of with after their d2 shenanigans and downgrades.

https://steamcharts.com/app/570940

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/220634/dark-souls-remastered/?region=All

as for metro, when it comes out in a year it has to compete with new games that come out at the time, unless deep silver wants to spend money again on marketing people will either have forgotten about it or simply don't care since it's a year old and not the new hot shit.
