Call of duty articles are fun to read, because the devs are retarded when it comes to guns. Many of them are based off airsoft replicas, guns like AKS-74-u are classified as SMGs(because they're about the same size), and in games like black ops, which takes place in the 1960s, you see anachronistic guns from 1970s, 1980s, even 1990s, and all that aside, they make a lot of amateur mistakes, or downright design retarded weapons, in case of the futuristic ones
Other than that, I also enjoyed far cry and fallout ones, but battlefield V and BF1 has some nuggets, as MOST weapons in BF1 are anachronistic or prototypes that never or barely saw combat, and BFV is build off of BFV in same way cod y is build off from cod x from 2-3 years ago, with a new coat of paint

Black Ops 1 at least has the excuse of the story being distorted due to the framing device of being told by Alex Mason. IMO the biggest offender was the Modern Warfare series where for the sake of weapon diversity and tacticoolness Russia uses nonsensical Western weapons when they have enough of their own (there's only like 3 Russian weapons in their roster of which only one - RPG-7 - makes any sense because the other two are the dated AK-47 and RPD).
One of the most jarringly anachronistic FPSes I've seen was Call of Juarez Bound in Blood, it reuses weapons from the first game which made sense there, but in a setting that takes place in and just after the Civil War - probably because single shot muskets wouldn't be so fun to use.

When they take over russia in MW2, it seems they replaced standard issue infantry weapons of the russian military that aren't called AK 47 or RPG with stuff like RPDs, FN FALs, Spas 12s ect, it's retarded, but then again, the entire game felt like an action movie, and the devs clearly just put in what they wanted rather than what made sense. MW3 tried to fix that somewhat by giving russians weapons actually used by the russian military
As far as anachronistic weapons go, with what you said, COD also kind of does that. In Loot crate weapons, in futuristic games, there are WW2 weapons like the MP40, Stens, RPKs ect, well over a hundred years after they were introduced, and it annoys me. This only happens in multi player, where xxx_faggot_69 is calling my mother a whore, rainbow colored flashing gun with a dildo attached to it in hand, but it's the principle of the thing, at least CoJ has an excuse(Laziness, reusing assets), while the devs go out of their way to include those weapons that serve no purpose in the setting, because it is kewl!
