>i think you're in the wrong thread, i love halo 2 but people here love 3 precisely because it isn't 2.
That's the thing though: Halo online and El Dewrito ISN'T Halo 3. If you want Halo 3, play Halo 3. let HO/dewrito be it's own thing, allow it to take good elements from multiple halo games and be it's own expierence that attempts to imorove on the formula.
Fuck, I wouldn't even mind if people wanted to make it into 3 even as long as they made an effort to tweak the things 3 did wrong or less then ideal
>3 has been tweaked to perfection in regards to movement, fucking with it throws off so much other balancing, not just mapflow and control
Horseshit, there's plenty you can tweak to improve the game without weaking other things to compensate, and even if not, tweak those other things too if it results in the final product being better
>holy shit are you bad? every weapon has a niche for certain distances and terrain. even the fucking spiker as rare as it is to see, has applications inside close quarters that has a chance to escalate into melee.
Anon you are god damn lying to yourself if you are honestly claiming that the BR isn't the best weapon to have on you in the vast majority of maps and situations. Yes, the AR, Spiker, SMG will be better in close quarters in or just beyond melee range, but how often are you going to actually be inside that range in most maps or campaign missions? Furthermore, the BR is still DECENT at close combat, wheras those other guns are fucking useless past like 10 feet.
I'm not going to sit here and claim 2's weapon balance is anybody, the BR, if anything, is even more fucking busted then 3's BR is when you look at it in isolation, but 2 also had way more maps built around close quarters combat so it sort of evens out. The only games in the series that actually sort of managed to have guns either be so unique that each one was super useful; or made them all good neough at what they did and versatile enough to not be overly specialized; or some combination of the two, were CE, Reach, and 5: There's so few guns in CE and each is so unique that each gun had good usage, but even then the Magmum was so versatile there was never not a time you didn't want to be carying one.
In Reach, it's basically 3's sandbox, except each gun is better at what they are supposed to do, and the guns between factions are made more unique, such as the focus rifle not just being a sniper rifle reskin but having an actually different, but similar niche. 5 meanwhile just makes every gun super good and usable at a wider variety of ranges, which leads to many feeling samey but at least they are all very, very usable, moreso then in any other game in the series.
>which most guns are balanced around
It's an inherently shit mechanic to have a high level of innate spread on guns, period. And it's STILL not balanced since even though the BR has some, meant to nerf it from 2, all the autos have way fucking more and the carbine is just as inaccurate
>one of the huge problems with reach was shoehorning in classic maps when they weren't designed with the pinpoint accurate dmr in mind. like, what, you want a fucking needler rifle? is that what you REALLY want?
The problem was that they were treating the DMR like the BR 2.0 rather then a more purely mid-long range marksmen weapon. It shouldn't have been a jack of all trades gun, it should have been a non-power weapon sniper, basically; and it should have really sucked at close range and be alright at mid, which would give the newly mid range AR more wiggle room. The needle rifle could have been the carbine/true mid range weapon still, but harder to find on maps or some shit

Blue team wasn't shit, they were just underutlized. They have potential.
>The only thing holding Halo back is the complete incompetence of 343 as a game developer and their pathetic obsession with chasing trends that have ruined other franchises.
And I'd agree for Halo 4, which was blatently CoD-ified, but I think the mechanics 5 introduces (mostly) actually work well within halo's formula and improve things the series has always sort of been lacking in. I'm not gonna claim 5's new machanics are perfect, but the hate people have for them just on the virtue of being difference is stupid.
The fanbase's obession with keeping to their vision of "classic halo" when no such thing exists since CE, 2, and 3 all had big changes between them, is almost as much a detriment at this point as 343's trend chasing, since it results in 343 being unable to actually improve and build upon the series in any way no matter how well or poorly executed it is.
