I really hope that it's the case, because I've seen the opposite online while I was bluepilled on tumblr. Even the ones who haven't transitioned, they're tremendously weak emotionally. As someone who has been an avid user of chatrooms for decades, even before getting hooked on imageboards, I can safely say that this is not something unique to VRChat. I think having avatars and a consistent server to hang out on will make this effect more pronounced, but generally when you combine the comfort and relaxation of being at home with social interaction with online strangers, your brain kinda defaults to feeling friendly and attached with everyone

For me the main appeal is by far the second part, I just have a cute girl avatar out of courtesy for others. If someone is using a good model and has at least basic tracking set up, it works great, it feels like you're talking to an anime girl even if they have the voice of a 30-year-old dude.
But I think someone more competent will eventually have to take over in developing social VR, all this time and money and VRChat is spending its resources trying to make it more safe for kids instead of making the tech better and adding more support for various input devices.

The issue is that the sound that leaks out is the low frequencies in human speech which are omnidirectional. The high frequencies are already blocked by the walls, which is why voices from another room sound muffled. So if you want to actually soundproof your voice to any noticeable degree then you need to completely ssurround yourself in sound absorption material on all sides. The thin 1"x1" sound absorption panels that people stick on walls just reduce high frequency reflections a bit. Most people just stick them haphazardly on the walls falsely thinking they'll contribute to soundproofing since they see recording studios doing it. They don't realize that reflection dampening and soundproofing are two completely different things and that those same recording studios have the sound proofing built into the actual building structure.
There's really no cheap slap on method to effectively soundproof. The cheapest and simplest way is probably buying a bunch of owens corning 703 2" fiberglass insulation panels, wrapping them in a decorative cloth cover and basically covering your entire walls with them. But that's going to probably cost you around $2.00 per square foot.

Been using vr pretty extensively for close to a year now and spent a fair while of it in vrchat. Is there anything you want to know about it all? I have a vive and full body tracking. Never once streamed or ever watched a streamer (for any game, specifically avoided it and just fucking play games myself). Made more friends in vr than in real life. Fucked anime bitches. Spent the entirety of christmas in vrchat and had a great time though boxing day was pretty shit because I realised I didn't even get a phonecall from my real family. Make my own avatars and a world. Cuddled up and actually slept with people. Went to raves, concerts, and dance parties. Watched movies on big screen amphitheaters. Basically everything at this point.

The overall effects of virtual reality is not too different from other forms of new media fiction, it's just more stimulating and requires you to have a slightly better understanding of the lines between fiction and reality. As with most things, the user has a responsibility to know and consider the risks and safe use practices.
