I would personally go with an original model DS if you're going to play GBA games, it's not backwards compatible with GB and GBC games (which I could've sworn I was able to do with my DS, false memory I suppose), but the extended battery life and physical design are fantastic. They're also usually cheaper than the GBA itself.

>Astro Boy: Omega Factor
it took decades for someone to make a good Astro Boy game. That someone turned out to be Sega and Treasure, and it was worth the wait.
The international version is even better than the already excellent Japanese version, adding an additional difficulty mode and increasing the challenge overall on lower difficulties
>Aria of Sorrow
Arguably the best Castlevania on GBA.
>Mother 3
Strange, funny, heartrending. Its tagline suits it well.
>Sword of Mana
Oft maligned for reasons never specified, it's a pretty good remake and reimagining of the first game in the Mana series. Don't know how I feel about the amigo system, but everything else is good.
>Magical Vacation

28079c No.16046904
>>16046727
Main series Summon Night is a mostly Japan only SRPG series. Swordcraft Story is a fun real time JRPG subseries with sidescrolling combat (like an old Tales game but without a party and more emphasis on hack and slash than artes, which are limited in use) and emphasis on breaking foes weapons to learn how to make them yourself, with character relations. Third game is sadly still moon only. Twin age is more of a diablo-esque auto attack + ability on cooldown ARPG spin off on the DS if memory serves, and while Summon Night X: Tear's Crown has been fan translated I haven't heard a lick from anons on whether it's any good or not.

>Shrine quest involves going from one end of the village to the other without getting caught
>Getting spotted by the normal-sized traveler piques their interest
>They'll chase after you and try to grab you

Since we are on technos turf, pic related is must play but maybe the gba version is not the optimal experience since they cut out the multiplayer aspect of the game.If you don't care about the multiplayer you could give it a chance, it adds a bunch of stuff. The pc engine or nes versions are the ones you should look for multiplayer.Avoid the X68000 version.

I like the bestial Picori from Minish Cap more since they have a unique look, but man that would've been great.
What's more, BOTW is pretty much known by everyone. If they made it in, then maybe Minish Cap could've gotten more rep and Nintendo might've been encouraged to do more with its world. Probably not though

>breaking foes weapons to learn how to make them yourself
I'm loving the sound of that. Being able to break an enemy's weapon is already nice, but making it your own later seals the deal. I hope there are spears and polearms.
Thanks anons. I'll give Swordquest a shot and see if I like it. Maybe I'll try getting into the mainline games afterward if I like the general style, even if the gameplay is different.

Seconding the Mega Man and Metroid recs, but don't be afraid to skip: Metroid Fusion, Mega Man Battle Network 1 and 4, and Mega Man Zero 1. BN4 is the only one that's objectively bad, Zero1 and BN1 are OK but kinda stink compared to the rest of the series'. Fusion is a good first Metroid game, but you don't like being on a leash, play Zero Mission.

Tactics Advance is OK, but it's easy to end up with quests you can't finish due to the dumb quest item system if you don't use walkthroughs all the time.

It's more about raising 1 or 2 monsters than collecting a pokedex. The caravan provides services in camp and support for your monster in battle
Give it an honest try and you might be surprised

There is indeed a spear class of weapon. During dungeon crawling for materials (going off my experiences in the first), you can equip three weapons at once and shift between them, and each weapon has a durability, the amount of which is displayed below your character's health. Bosses, such as other Craftknight apprentices in the tournament, will also have both a health and durability gauge, with both limited to one weapon, plus their summon and whatever they have equipped to them for items/spells. Defeat in such is through either depletion of health, or the weapon wielded breaking, but only breaking the foe's weapon yields the ability to make it for yourself. Aside from that, you can gain new blueprints from the character's master between chapters to craft generic weapons, as it's both about the character succeeding in combat against rivals and monsters, but continuing to build your repertoire as a smith too. The relationships, as well as only getting one out of four possible summons per playthrough, encourages replay as well.
