At times it seems to suck that in the West Dragon Quest has been taking the backseat while Final Fantasy hogs all the glory, but the quality of DQ is still good and has a better track record of games in comparison. Out of the underrated games that need attention, the Dragon Quest Monsters games were some of the best monster collector RPGs I've ever played and I prefer them to Pokemon in certain aspects. I think the biggest critique of the art is that the characters are samefaces "DBZ rejects" because the artist being Anita Toriyama, but I do find the art style fun and charming. Final Fantasy on one hand has protagonists that look like Metrosexual Boy Bands, Divas and fashion models in comparison to DQ Characters looking more like actual adventurers and heroes.

If the name Final Fantasy was slapped onto it and the Slime was replaced with a Chocobo, I guarantee it would have had a Western release. Imagine a Final Fantasy Monsters series too.
