yes, although i would maybe put it the other way around. languages form from people putting marks and symbols and words onto their surroundings. languages reveal what a certain people believes about the world, how they view certain objects, what they consider to be valuable and even their spiritual views. i dont think theres any proof for this but i always guessed that german uses gendered words because its a holdover from ancient times, when they were animists and thus believed everything had a spirit of some sort. people like that would probably ascribe a gender to just about everything under the sun.

I remember reading that the finns often called the vikings the men in iron shirts. their culture did not have advanced metallurgy, and thus didnt have armor or weapons like the vikings did. they didnt know what armor or chainmail was, so, they just mashed two words of things they did know. to them chainmail was just an iron shirt.

i also remember reading about this chimp experiment where the scientists gave a chimp a pipe to smoke. when the chimp realized there was no tobacco inside, he asked the scientists for "pipe-food". the chimp had seen tobacco before, and understood that it was consumed by the pipe to illicit some unknown effect, but the word for tobacco was unknown to him because the scientists never taught it to him. so instead of using sign language for "tobacco", he invented a new word using words that he already knew. its very interesting and reveals much about how chimps view things

Chinese characters aren't even ideograms, except for a tiny subset of 100 or so which are also radicals (elementary building blocks, the rest of the characters are actually composed of). Most are phonosemantic, which means you have one part representing only the sound and one part as a vague classifier for meaning of the character. The strength of the system is that characters also function as morphemes, not just words, which means you are far more likely to understand words even without previous exposure, and the vocabulary is highly organized, much more so than in English. It's also possible to read a text much faster than with a purely phonetic alphabet.
