I just played a game that I haven't played since I was a kid, and it was even better than I remembered it being. But just as much as I enjoyed it, it absolutely crushed my soul to actually play it and realize how much of an oldfag I am. I just want to have fun, and I played a game that was supposed to be fun and when I was a kid it WAS fun, but now it just hurts.

What kills me more than the loss of any game is the loss of the community and the culture that we had before the late 2000's.

I miss LAN parties. I miss when game developers made games to be enjoyed, instead of making them for the sole purpose of being sold. I miss when game reviewers were honest and enthusiastic about the hobby. I miss when there were no clickbait article sites, and no jewy shit like lootboxes.

Remember when you didn't need twelve different publisher storefronts installed on your system to play your games? Remember when the games came on physical media and you didn't need an internet connection to play them? Remember when beta tests were actual tests that you applied for, and not glorified pre-launch free weekends?

Having a front-and-center seat to watch this entire hobby go to shit over a very short 12 year period has been a horrifying and deeply depressing experience. It was really funny at first to ride that tiger but now I'm out of things to laugh at. Five years ago I would have laughed my ass off at shit like Anthem or Battlefield V but now the joke has worn itself out and it just feels like more disappointment.

Ace Combat is just a casual as fuck flight game that despite heavy work put into it, it's relatively easy to make and Bamco was scared as all hell to make a new one for example.

Now imagine something more niche or complex, it simply won't happen

This hasn't changed as I matured and I don't only like them because I cherish the memories, no, to shit like the news I look back and say:

Hollyjew was always shit and I admit I like many 90s and 00s movies from that industry not brcause they are good but because I like their asthetic and trends more than the ones that exist now, still I never lived in the 60s and 70s and those are better movies in bulk no doubt.

Videogames however aren't just subject to nostalgiafagging or of you becoming more aware of the world with age, no I've played many sequels and old and new games back to back, I've analysed and coompared some and the base gameplay design in older games always wins.

Most games, many of whom the market leaders, were better back then, this isn't just nostalgiafaggotry, this is a fact.
