Let's post some great games that never get talked about:

>Great side stories that take you off guard

>Cool job system

>Bright, colourful, massive world to explore

>Dozens of hours worth of content

>Amazingly catchy soundtrack

The conditions for unlocking classes were obnoxious and made me outright quit the game because it wouldn't let me use the classes I wanted without jumping through hoops.

Like what?

Been a while since I played and I don't remember having any problems like that.

b1e173  No.16033731

It was okay. Definitely not the worse DQ by a mile.

Certainly didn't like how the game doesn't tell you ingame or even in the instruction manual that weapon levels are shared across all classes that use those weapons so you don't waste points on obtaining a classes passives. Really irked my OCD regarding class building having wasted levels.

None unless you nitpick at DQ1

The remakes for DS and 3DS are debatable for the painfulness of the accents though, and DQ Tactics (DSi) was just plain uninteresting

It's not an amazing game by any means, but as a kid and going from the disappointment of Spore PC, to this, I was quite pleasantly surprised.

The Paper Mario-esque "2D characters on 3D world" and the art direction can be a complete turn-off for many, but I personally found it charming.

It's essentially a recreation of the PC Creatures Stage on the DS hardware, except unlike the PC version which had little to nothing as far as goals, motivation, or things to do, this one had a story and sidequests to keep you moving forward. Gameplay wise it's similar to most collectathons or fetchquest games, but the character customization and variety of social/combat choices was enough to keep me entertained through it. Not sure if it only holds up in my memory, but I just remember it being better than the PC version.

>Vastly improved battle system

>post games use all of the maps, doubling gameplay content

>actual use of vertical and movement based combat

>multiple challenge modes

>MC going from lazy nigger to warlord

>doesn't just pull the humans overexploited everything, instead they're rightfully worshipped as gods, and develops the idea.

I'm quite enjoying DQ11 even if the port is a bit unstable on PC. Throw on the two draconic mode Harder Enemies + cant get exp on monsters under your level and the game feels much more of a challenge, some of the bosses midgame gave me a heartattck. Of course the symphony mod to replace the music and its a pretty solid DQ and I dont think I hate a single character in the party, especially the character who joins you in act 2

it was in one of the updates, draconic mode. Dunno if you can choose it halfway through the game but you can choose at the start of a new game. Its got lots of other variables too you can toggle to increase difficulty

The more difficult monster option also seems too add more attacks to some bosses over basegame too or they'll more likely combo you with status shit into deadly blows

dqb wasnt minecraft with quests. it was a linear arpg with building mechanics similar to dark cloud. it was replayable and it let you build little rpg towns and assign rooms to people, and they'll interact with the town. and find things to do. like cook in the kitchen and build random items, use bath houses/dressing rooms and other stuff.

it def wasnt the town managment sim you thought it would be, but letting you build and design small rpg towns that can feel alive is pretty damn comfy.

the game is super easy, I'd recommend it just for the challenge, you dont even have to grind if you forge your armour and weapons up and make a good character builds. Most bosses ae susceptible to status effects in this too

>>16034831

yea? maybe i'll start with the higher difficulty stuff, then tone it down if it turns out that im actually a retarded casual.

can you toggle those things off later on? or does it also need to be disengaged when you begin the game.

>its a better game than minecraft

In no way that anyone who likes Builders can articulate. It doesn't let you dig as deep or build as high. It forces you to build structures according to blueprints or they don't function. It doesn't let you play it without subjecting you to an interminable tutorial. It doesn't have hidden structures to find. Its world is divided into tiny sections that are locked behind the inane storyline.

>its a different genre entirely from dragon quest

I make the comparison because it's riding on Dragon Quest's success. Dragon Quest defined its genre, and many games in the series are great games in that genre. Builders is an inferior imitation of Minecraft with nothing original about it.

>its MUCH better than the sims.

Sims can interact with the houses you build for them in more ways and with more depth than the sub-Oblivion-tier NPCs in Builders. If that's what you're playing the game for, The Sims is superior. You can also make your own Sims that will interact in different ways depending on their personalities.

By "tasks" I mean the pointless errands that trash games like this call "quests" and throw at you one after another so you feel like you're accomplishing something and making progress. These tasks aren't fun at all on their own, but you keep doing them because the game pats you on the back and says good job for each one you finish.

I never really see DJMax get talked about, even in rhythm game threads. It's a great series though. The gameplay is tight with a huge range of difficulty ranging from piss easy to fuck you, so there is always more room for improvement. Many games have different modifiers that can change things up to make it easier or harder. The music is also mostly fantastic and varied, so you can enjoy lots of different genres. It's just quality overall.
