I really liked TWEWY, 358/2, Infinite Space, SRTOG Endless Frontier, also tactical jrpgs like Knights in the Nightmare, FFTA2, both Fire Emblems.
Now that I think about it I think I like the strategy ones more because you don't have to deal with the random encounter bullshit.

Dragon Quest is the best JRPG series ever and while DQ11 has some flaws particularly in the design changes that where meant to casualize this entry its still a great game that has a impressive amount of content despite its small map. What is even more impressive is how the story gets better the longer you play. Also consider the fallowing: Veronica is 18.

Doesn't really fix the core issues caused by the calumniation imho. Played through most the game in Draconian but had to turn it off 3/4th of the way through because it was just too slow going with all the grinding and how tough the fights got. However the biggest problems is that the enemies on the map are not aggressive and you can run past every single encounter.

I've been playing DQ2 after having played the first years ago and I enjoyed the exploration and lack of hand holding a lot. After playing through the Final Fantasy games it is refreshing to have to write shit down and follow clues instead of being told exactly where to go and what to do. I have made it to the final castle but haven't explored it much because of how strong the enemies are. I don't like that I suddenly have to grind a ton to function against random encounters but I am assuming the game is almost over so I will be riding it out. The game isn't great but I have been having a good time and will definitely continue through the series.
