I've had my money's worth of fun out of it, partly sniping people trying to EVA to complete missions, then stealing their ships and watching everyone rage. Partly because the Arena commander is one of the best space shooter's I've played. Partly because racing was actually fun if you had the right ships for it. And partly because it's just eyecandy.
But it's not a full game. More like several demos.
Part of me expects it to fail. But these are some of the best looking ships I've ever seen. The artwork is amazing. Even if this burns as hard as possible, some studio somewhere is going to buy this and do something with it. Eventually, we'll get more of a game out of this one way or another. The money so far has funded some of the best thought out ship designs ever created. It's not like a sci fi show where it's totally impractical. It's got users bitching about where the toilet goes and how a nearby airlock to a room with beds is dangerous. Seriously, these sci fi ships are some of the best ever put together. There is just no way this many high quality rigged and animated 3D assets will go to waste.
I know it's a bit snobish, but the art really is magnitudes better than complete games like Elite Dangerous.
Moreover, none of the elite dangerous ships are flushed out on the inside. You can't even get out of your seat. In Star Citizen it's really more of a FPS with complex vehicles. You can fly into someone's open hanger and shoot them all and steal the ship. I've done stuff like that and it's the only "game" I ever played where that was possible. Destruction art is off the charts too, hallways vent to space and the alarms go silent. Ships break in half with glowing metal as you EVA away. Ramming and boarding are serious parts of combat.
I legit am going to miss these times when/if it launches because the care free "everything will be reset" next update has inspired some truly reckless gameplay that I won't do in a persistent universe.

I don't dislike that, I wouldn't expect all spaceships to be works of art. What pisses me off is that they sacrifice functionality so often in their designs, and not just the ships, but gameplay design, too. They have the tech for transparent holoscreens, but for some reason we need to have bulky screens obstructing the view out of the cockpit even on the most open designs, and in many fighters the dashboard takes up way too much of what you see out of your seat.
Then they fill the screens with borderline useless junk about emissions and power settings that you normally won't be touching just to have some nice graphs going up and down, but you'll never know how much fuel you have, how much cargo you have loaded, there's no way to easily see what components are malfunctioning if you get hit and definitely not to what degree.

The ships are all terrible and impractical on top of looking really boring and generic. There's a "luxury" ship where when you sit down in a lounge type area at the back you can't see out of the windows because they're slightly too high up. Almost every single feature and design choice is a joke. Even corridors in big ships are too narrow for example. Obviously anyone stupid or autistic enough to spend money on this piece of shit isn't going to notice any of this. They're like trannies who think they pass because they don't notice their own stubble and chest hair, or hoarders who can't see the mess they live in.
The reason for the poor design is all the artists are really bad at their jobs and have Chris Roberts as their boss. They don't have the skill or imagination to do anything good, and even if they did there'd be no point trying to force through any improvements to the art direction and design philosophy. They all know the engine and everything else is beyond fucked so it's like building a house on sand.
>Then they fill the screens with borderline useless junk
It's the Potemkin village of computer games. That's the key to understanding why many things are the way they are. However, Chris Roberts knows this.

>Whales will eat it all up and in the end will convince themselves the journey was worth it.
If they can afford to keep dragging their feet long enough, I'm pretty sure there will eventually be a halfway decent game to show for it. Something very far from the promises, and very far from how good it should be for the many hundred million spent on it, but for better or worse they are producing content now, and the game sometimes works, which is way more than I was expecting one or two years ago.

It's restaurant/bar professional level hardware and it's a high quality European-made import.
All professional hardware is really expensive, typically because it doesn't have the built in defaults consumer goods all have and therefore have a much longer longevity despite a much harder/constant use.
That's the only way the manufacturer can stay in business (instead of volume sale of stuff that comes with a short life expectancy so the customer will have to come back).
Of course that kind of shit is completely overkill for a break room coffee maker…

I don't understand live streaming such as on Twitch, especially in the cases where they don't even save the VODs. I'm not going to check my notifications every 10 minutes to see if someone streams, I thought we were behind these TV-tier wastes of time shenanigans.

Not really it just tastes a bit richer as the higher pressure takes more out of the grounds. It has a more full-bodied flavour but you can probably get the same effect from a cheaper macine that would only run you a couple hundred but I haven't had coffee from a machine that expensive. I think it would be more down to what grounds you buy then anything else and anything expensive like that is just audiophile tier wankery.
