Just a shitty 2D version of Second Life, but far far more limiting. The game even has an active hate base on Twitter complaining about the horrible updates which focus on interacting with NPCs rather than humans and the fact the game gets updated only every 2-4 months with nothing worthwhile. It's like you're playing Club Penguin in 0.001 alpha.

No, it was one of the mainline Sierra series and enjoyed some of the latest technology behind their games because Al and Ken were good friends. It wasn't until the later games that things got cheap as Ken was kicked out of his own company and it was having the butchering lines drawn all over it. Anything that didn't try to get shoehorned into other, more popular, genres (like KQ8:MoE) got it's budget slashed and passed off as trying to chase the "Disney"/Don Blueth market of cartoony games. Leisure Suit Larry and Space Quest both got the "animated" treatment, but LSL7 had a bigger budget and fared much better. SQ6 both looked and played like garbage, which is a hell of a shame since SQ5 was fantastic.

I only played Oblivion modded and it was pretty neat in many ways but it took ages to setup and hunt down all the best mods, make it work together and then fix load order and stuff when it didn't. I haven't played it, but being something of an amateur game dev myself and watching a lot of videos of this game I can recognize that the game must allow you to run whatever custom scripts you want, and import totally custom content that other people can see. I don't know what the process is for that but it's universal. You can be anything at all you want. Apparently you can import whatever animations you want as well. So it seems ideal for cybering if you were in to that.

I did fuck around in Second Life ages ago and it had a pretty large amount of content, of all manners, but all behind paywalls. Everything is on sale there, animations, skins, models and so forth. It was kind of devoid of players, like a huge shopping mall for any sort of degeneracy imaginable but nobody in except a few unfriendly people, and that was way back, it's probably even deader these days. The concept behind second life was basically "What if players could sell mods?". It was kind of an ancap nightmare.
