What were they thinking? Why did they waste money on actors and live action cutscenes instead of just making bigger races? And if they wanted to give each opponent a personality they could have gone the Flatout 2 route and just add a short bio on the loading screen, no need for actors and cutscenes.

most of the Top Gear specials (vietnam etc) were tons of fun to watch and i would honestly play a game where you got to go along with them, buy the cheapest car/truck/motorcycle you could find for that particular "special" and spend the rest of that "level" doing challenges, trying to figure out what the fuck is wrong with your car, and buying obscenely huge gifts for Richard Hammond to try and fit on his motorcycle/in his car

I haven't watched TGT but let me guess why it's not that good.

It relies too much on skits and feels more "self aware" about it's jokes when in Top Gear it felt more natural, and it more or less ended up as a type of forced Top Gear special stretched out over a season?

Not really. The writing and stuff is largely the same, it's just that the segments don't seem to go anywhere and end rather abruptly. It's not as bad as everyone says it is, it's just missing the punch that the original show had. They don't do as much crazy shit.

But Season 3 begins at the end of this week so we'll see if they picked up in quality.
