All this game had to push it out the doors on launch day was the nine month long edging session that was the marketing campaign. Everyone who isn't autistically addicted to this game have either returned it or lost interest for now, especially considering this game was front-loaded as fuck. The season pass gachashit was practically made for another good long period of getting samurai's cock shoved down everyone's throats so DLC will (most likely) sustain it enough to keep it from the discount bin for about another year or so, then it's up to the tourneyfags to keep getting those sponsor shekels for Nintenjew at that point. Give it a couple of weeks or a month or so and you'll start seeing a post a minute on these threads again as some completely unexpected DLC character reveal sends people into an existential crisis, or piranha plant turns out being fun/shit/broken/any adjective that manages to stick to the wall.

There is control: Money. Each of the characters is in because of some business decision or partnership with another company. Playing Dark Souls at work makes me want Solaire as a DLC character. He's the goofiest character in the game (Onion Bro notwithstanding) has a lot of fan appeal and an easy moveset. Sword and board could introduce new ideas to an old moveset style, as well - expanding on the idea of Link's shield being a thing that blocks stuff. Down-B could be Estus or even a parry - an extremely small-window counter that stuns the opponent for a while.
As for stage and music, I know I'd want Firelink Shrine as a level - no hazards, just NPCs milling about. Maybe throw in some boss music for combat music. If Assist Trophies come with the DLC, or could, then Tarkus could come in for that.

Remastered is servicable as a single-player version if you're not super-autistic about framerate, etc. It has some neat quality of life (Pop Humanity/Soul items as many at once as you like, deliver covenant items as many at once as you like, swap covenants at bonfires, etc) and docked it looks fantastic.
This is the first time I'm NG+ing the game and I've played the initial console release and the PC one with DSfix. PC was best, this is a solid second.

Personally, I don't really think that the tournament scene has played the game enough to warrant a competitive mod yet. But these people who go out of their way to stifle the creativity of others and attempt to strangle the life out of mod scenes deserve to burn.
My main gripe with Ultimate is that it feels like they put in the bare minimum of effort in some regards. There's a feature that lets you turn stage hazards on and off, unfortunately, it's a single switch that controls all the fun shit on every stage. It would be much better if every stage had a number of options that could be toggled. I.E a seperate toggle for moving platforms and boss spawns and stage transitions. It really sucks.
Also, I'm probably in the minority because I play with items on, but I wish you could toggle individual pokemon and assist trophies. Some summons are fun, but others are so shit that my brothers and I will just put down our controllers or otherwise refuse to fight until they leave or their effect ends. It's a shame that you can't get rid of the shitty ones without also removing the few good ones. In the same theme, some items randomly invert their effect eg. the lightning bolt usually makes all the other players tiny but occasionally makes the one who picks it up tiny instead. It really sucks that you can't toggle that sort of misfire functionality either.
If Steve gets in the brand will be poisoned for me and I will never buy another Nintendo console and just stick to piracy/emulation. Nothing can describe my disgust, which is funny because I don't even dislike minecraft all that much for what it is.

For Flame Choke, you have at least one option for each thing your opponent can respond to getting grabbed with. If they don't tech the grab, you can forward/down tilt them. If they tech it but don't move, you have a tight window where you can jab them so long as you delay attacking. If they tech roll away you can chase them with a dash attack, and if they tech roll behind you they open themselves up to a side smash.
They definitely could've done more for him than they did, though. As it stands, he's probably still one of the worst characters to play competitively.

In addition to his base Beam Katana, Blood Berry, Travis will carry Rose Nasty and Tsubaki Mk II which he can switch to with Down + B. Using Rose Nasty, Travis will swing the 2 Beam Katanas in tandem, creating a delayed hitbox that will follow with the initial attack, but at the cost of attack power. Tsubaki Mk II will swing much slower, but comes with more damage, range, and a bigger hitbox. All of these Beam Katanas carry a charge that when depleted, have to be switched out for another and will slowly recharge over time.

Now here's something I don't understand about the whole Steve from Minecraft being a fighter in Smash Ultimate "Rumor/Leak"; The guy who "leaked" about that "info", VergeBen, never implied that Steve would be a fighter in the first place. He first stated that Smash Ultimate would get "Minecraft content" in someway (i.e. a stage) yet everyone on the internet took that "info" as being Steve would be a fighter in Smash Ultimate. Then VergeBen kept doubling down on everything when all of the content in Smash Ultimate was reveled and yet no Minecraft content was founded in the game's data when Smash Ultimate was releasing. Plus, the whole Steve/Minecraft content in Smash Ultimate could of originated from one of the "insiders" mistook the Pig from Cubivore as being the same pig from Minecraft. Now for this VergeBen "leaker", in the past and currently he's usually wrong with "leaks" (i.e. Soul Calibur 6 won't have character creation or Geralt & 2B won't be fighters, one of the DBZ games won't have a story mode, the first DLC fighter for Smash Ultimate will be a Square Enix character, no new fighter rep from the DK games in Smash Ultimate) or anything half-right (i.e. Simon only, Isabelle is an echo fighter).
Now about the new "leak"; the timeline of the revels of all the fighters doesn't make sense. The last DLC fighter would be released around February of 2020 yet the "leak" said that the last two fighters would be reveled at E3 this year. On top of that, this "leak" came from 5channel of all imageboards. Why 5channel and not 2chan getting the "leak"? That part doesn't make sense to me tbqhwy.
So my take on this DLC faggotry for Smash Ultimate: No one knows who would be in the fighter pass at this point in time. Not even the "insiders" confidently knows who would be in Smash Ultimate's DLC because they thought a Square Enix character would be the first DLC fighter and then Joker from Persona 5 was reveled to be the first fighter for Smash Ultimate's DLC fighter pass. Overall, all "leaks" and "rumors" are fake&gay by default. To be honest, no. It's the first Smash that I've sunk time into practicing, and the online really isn't fun at all. The input buffer, combined with the input lag, mean the most fun I've had is playing with a few people IRL. But even then, they can just go Mac or K Rool, and I've gotta play patient as fuck, bait, and punish. I'm not even that good, but it's rare I get matches that are actually fun. Just because I can deal with super armor and zoning, doesn't mean it's fun. In fact, thinking about it, I haven't touched the game in quite a few days now, and I hopefully won't again.
If nothing else, it's given me an appreciation for Melee's gameplay, and an understanding of why Project M ever became a thing.

The portrayal of Samus in the Super Smash Bros series is a fucking travesty. None of her iterations have ever done the games justice. I doubt Sakurai has even picked any of them up. Anyone who plays a couple of minutes of Super then hops on Smash would immediately be able to tell something is wrong. She's way too floaty, her projectiles have too much lag, her run animation is retarded, and slow. Captain Falcon moves more like Samus than Samus herself. I really hate how little of her toolkit is reflected in smash, especially the stupid charge beam. I wish it was fast and spammable like the power beam is in the games. The Super Scope item is how Samus's neutral b should have behaved. What's even worse about the charge beam is that its almost entirely redundant with the missiles. You pretty much get two flavors of laggy projectiles, except one of them takes two seconds to charge up and mainly exists to distract you from doing useful shit while your opponent recovers. The dash attack is a shitty excuse for a shinespark and has too much lag. Screw attack locks your horizontal movement even though you can practically fly with it in the games. None of the alt weapons from Prime show up, and not even the ice beam which has been in every one of her games is present.
I especially hate the bimboification of her ZS form. Her height in Brawl was just a minor gripe, but the heels were just pushing it too far and almost seem like a sick joke on Sakurai's part. I can tell effort was put into making that smug pterodactyl just as brutal and infuriating as he is in the games. Edge guarding with fireballs is such a dick move and perfectly befitting of Ridley. The crazy damage on the tailstab also gets people mad since its so cheesy. Big characters aren't really my cup of tea though, which is why the Belmonts are my new favorites. I had an Amigara fault moment the instant I tested them out. Zair skills translate perfectly to the whip.

The "Gimmick" of a Souls character would be that each special move switches the weapon you have equipped. Up special rotates you through Pyromancy, Sorcery, Dark Magic, Archery, and Faith, side special rotates you through all the melee weapons. Down special is just limited use Estus. From there, your entire play-style is based around using standard attacks with whatever is equipped. Character also has the best spot-dodge abilities in the game, and absolutely no recovery.

This is why I think Master Chief has the edge over Doomguy. Doomguy's most iconic weapons are all those violent/ballistic weapons like the Chainsaw, Super Shotgun and Chaingun, and on top of that his game is filled with religious iconography (judeo-christian depictions of demons and hell).
Chief on the other hand has plenty of weapons that are fantastical and sci-fi enough that he would be able to work very well in Smash. He has the Spartan Laser, the SPNKR rocket launcher, tons of covenant weapons like the sticky plasma grenades, energy sword and fuel rod gun, the needler, the gravity hammer, and lots of armor equipment as well like jetpacks and bubble shields. He has no shortage of stuff to work with that's iconic and recognizable from his games and also fits within Nintendo's censor-happy standards.

I hate world of light, and nothing exemplifies why more than this. How is this fair? How is this fun? You've got a final destination layout with poison ground, meaning you're always taking damage on the ground, if you don't give up two spirit slots for poison immunity. ZS Samus is amazing in the air, too, so don't think you can just use a character that's good at staying off the ground. The poison has no fucking relation to The Boss, either, it's just there to make the fight arbitrarily harder. Then there's the fact it's a stamina battle, meaning being good at launching practically doesn't matter. And she starts off with way more stamina than you do, and her defense arbitrarily raises once her stamina gets low enough, meaning she practically has more stamina that the number says she does.
And, to top it all off, is the numbers bullshit that serves as the very core of everything wrong with world of light. She has an arbitrary power number of 13000. You're only going to get even near that with a high level legendary spirit. Better make sure it has at least two slots, too, if you don't want to constantly be taking damage! And, since she's practically guaranteed to have a higher number than you, she's going to, by default, be doing more damage to you than you do to her, finding it easier to stun you than you do her, and just overall have better stats than you do.
It's a cocktail of giving the cpu nearly every single advantage over you that it can have, without making the fight outright impossible. World of light expects you to just cheese or nullify its challenges with spirits. It expects you to grind out arbitrary numbers just to have a fair shot at certain fights. Its event mode, but several times worse. How did they think this was a good mode?

Once you get a spirit with over 10k raw power and 2 or more support slots the whole thing becomes a cakewalk. Primal Groudon is one of the easier ones to get while in the adventure mode.
I agree that it's pretty gay that you have to use spirits to even have a fair shake against so many battles like the Boss, but unfortunately this is how they balanced it. It also doesn't help that only half of all spirit challenges show up in World of Light, and the other half are on the Spirit Board. It means you can't have as much fun with it when you can't retry the battle in different ways. Better just choose optimum set-up and finish it in 5 seconds, don't want to miss out on that rare DK spirit, do you? It might be weeks before you even get a 2nd chance, unless you use a rematch ticket.
As a result, the more fun challenges wind up being one-off jokes like Snorlax and Sandbag.

Ederick based on concept art alone can still work like this if the only weight is sword and shield. The hero class is a jack-all who stats is based on personality anyway. Aerials depend on swordplay. I'm certain that all special moves are magic attacks that consume MP save for the Final Smash. Final Smash I predict will be called "mortal blow". It traps the fighter in a random encounter, a replica of the NES first person combat screen. The hero's party will do their commands first. Warrior attacks. Mage cats Kaboom. Cleric casts Kasap. Then the hero strikes with a "mortal blow" (critical hit) that launches the fighter out of the encounter and off screen.

I thought about adding Anna from Fire Emblem and how to make her mechanically interesting. On one hand she could be a new and original character. But on the other hand as a red haired le happy merchant Anna can have disposable gear similar to Robin's times as an echo fighter. This means overhauling echo fighters for the next game. Which if it means Dr. Mario is an echo of Mario now then this ruleset can work.
Thunder could be replaced with a Killing Bow. Arcfire can be replaced with a crossbow from Radiant Dawn. Nosferatu can be replaced with Balasar that doesn't lose durability if it misses but it's a quick attack that deals massive back stabbing damage at the expense of durability (up to 30% on hit at 1/3 durability) or very little (5% at 1/12 durability) with no hitstun. The sword would be a Venin Axe that poisons opponents but has very little killing power on it's own. If broken then a slightly more knockback heavy Hand Axe is used. Both axes are small and easy to use. Aside from now and knife models should use the same skeleton as female Robin. Haven't decided on an up aerial yet.
