Nobody even wants to play unless they have protection plugins so they can claim land and protect it from le epic griefers.
When it comes to modded servers, they're usually shit for a couple reasons:
>there's several hundred mods that cause feature overlap
to which I always hear "this is good because players can play however they want!", but it ignores the obvious problem that the easiest path to godhood is always the first taken, leaving the majority of content untouched, and the issue of all those mods bloating the requirements of the game, slowing it down, and making it unstable
>nobody can agree on what mods to include or what version to run
everyone wants their favorite mod, and wants the version that supports it, and a consensus is never achieved on what should be included or excluded
so we return to the status quo, run the latest FTB modpack, to which half the people who wanted to play fuck off because their computer can't even run it and the other half achieve creative mode within a day and engineer the apocalypse with a swarm of self replicating turtles or a chunk eating caterpillar that carries it's own chunk loader and fuels itself from the materials it harvests or go all out and use draconic evolution to disintegrate the world
