Really want to try an older source engine game. I mainly care about replayability so when I see HL2 reviewers consistently at only around 10 hours played and CSS obviously 200+ I'm thinking about going with CSS. if you're using any of the actual guns, you're playing wrong. the only time in half life 2 that it's okay to not exclusively use the gravity gun is the parts where you have to use the rocket launcher or the antlion pheromones.

css = shit base game, lots of fun custom game modes like surf, gg, zm, ze, etc.
hl2 = shit base game, not necessary for custom games which are the only good part of hl2/source, tf2 made mods free for everyone.

MMOD is pretty amazing. Currently playing through 2 with that.
Improves the AI a bit, the aim, they can jump too now. Makes every weapon projectile instead of hitscan. Adds a few visual options and you can detach the turret and tau gun to take with you.
You can turn anything you don't like off too.

I was too busy being gobsmacked at how awful the textures looked, even in 2005. I remember distinctly thinking, "These textures don't even look any better than HL1 textures." The combine just held them hostage, I wouldn't call it enslavement unless I'm missing something because they didn't use them for manual labor iirc. If you're not allowed to have kids or you're being malnourished all your life you'll end up dead eventually.
