53b238  No.15950396

The obscure Sega Saturn only sequel to Crusader of Centy on the Sega Genesis has received a sudden and full English translation. The manual was also translated. You can download a pre-patched bin/cue here that is confirmed working on original hardware. Mednafen is known to have issues with the game but SSF and Yabause provide better results.

For those who have played neither Crusader of Centy or this, it is like a Zelda game but with very good and fast game play. Linkle has gorgeous sprite work and takes full advantage of the Saturn with complex reflections and per-scanline interrupt effects and distortion.

I'll be dumping the rest of the translated manual following this post (OPs with more than 1 image are unsightly and annoying)

For the most part, fan-translators aren't subject to DMCA, at least to my knowledge. A lot clearly advocate for buying and ripping your own copies to patch, even if they probably know next to no one does that, which I assume shifts the grey area to being white enough that companies aren't too apt to care. Biggest issue tends to be when a company either clears a version to come over in the end (which can lead to the fan translation being cancelled out of respect), or it being recent enough that there's blood to be smelled in the water for a rerelease (IE: Square on FF Type-0). Not that the fan-translation scene is without faggotry of its own.

>>15952563

That was something to do with the then-new (current?) Shining director somehow concluding the S.O.S campaign was just a bunch of gaijin trolls seeking to defame his games. But I think that only prevented us officially getting his games, rather than hampering fan-translations.

<Chrono Ressurrection + everything on the site including Chrono Trigger retranslation (copyright)

<Final Fantasy Type-0 + spanish PSP square projects for iso merging / fmv improv. (prepatched copyright infrigement, later dropped suit)

<Dragon Quest VII 3DS (threatening letters in private, btw Mother 3 guy got some prior to release but didn't cower)

<Chink unlicensed Sega Genesis jarpigs (website drama, threats to RHDN admins by repro seller of different translation not affiliated with chink devs)

<Blue Almanac english proto release (threats to collector by repro seller of translation licensed by dev, not on their behalf, later bought it off and bragged about hoarding it forever and buy our translation instead)

<Working Designs balance mods to restore sane difficulty ("friends" of victor ireland on his forum salty someone didn't like them, raided the RHDN topic and pissed on his parade to ensure work is dropped and everyone else get in line and play the (((only))) localization available)

<Zwei 2 fan translation (almost done but lead wants some $$$ for herself and sell out to xseed unsollicited without the team's knowledge, xseed initially not interested, then taking the project 6 years later symbolically and flushing most of that work down the toilet)

<"it's claimed by other group!"

<"it has 1% chance to be officially localized"

<"stop retranslating / translating stuff that's already covered"

to tell project to stop

leading to

<ENTIRE Tales of series on PS2 series of translations tanked that way by a sellout who wants a namco PR job and initially used an OFFICIAL namco forum as the fantranslation hub which got unsurprisingly purged a few years later with most fan menu patches of the series available online lost forever that way in a way only they have themselves to blame for,

<SMT translations until recently, see Aeon Genesis meltdown over SMT:if and getting his media friends to cover his indirect "harassment" at cuckchan

<Kiseki translations "wait for geofront to do the whole series everyone else don't you fucking dare do anything"

<still going on every fucking time a retranslation or a retro translation happens

<even in emulation: decaf devs whine about how cemu (closed source) and its success is demoralizing them and hindering the existence of open source emulators

<had to mention this here because the exact same types use the same argument that poor "team who claimed translation" is demoralized anytime the EEEVIL "team who broke the exclusivity" touches the same game in the same century

a shit culture cultivated by users

a myth started by the groups who want monopoly (at best) and sabotage (at worst) to take down competitors

and parroted by foot soldiers, "fans" of these groups into BDSM who fight to stop the existence of the other translation

the most low iq foot soldiers also believe the groups they harrass will then go and translate their favorite game because moon is a finite ressource.

The real danger is those fuckers. Not surprising because sony already employs astroturfers to yell at emulation and romhacking sites that tame things like texture changes, text ports and things tolerated for years are ILLEGUL and MODS HALPS (already the shadercashe sharing that makes modern emulation tolerable is cracked down on by… moderators from within the "community") and then sony goes and patents that shit and lobbies the japanese government for more anti modding laws. The real danger is astroturfers.

Translating and hacking old games is the new hottness in modern gaming after the retro fad because the industry is that creatively bankrupt. It's natural they want to stop other superior options existence. The recent crackdown on romsites was just a first step so they can sell you SAVESTATES as new games.

There's still Russian translators who made their Tales tools available for others (something the anglophone hoarder scums made a point of never allowing on their watch or for anything they are involved in) Yeah and the only reason the Rebirth translation is still going (slowly) is because the English part is a pity project by a primarily french project, just like most ps2 projects that get actually done still these days.

I know those rage feels, gets into my skin because I was once talking with a few friends interested in translating them and they dropped the idea because it was "claimed".

>>15959308

Would there be interest in a website with full script rips of various nip games? (or english, too)

I could contribute a few game scripts (not the website design proper) and it will be very easy to exploit either as reference (no proper text rip websites out there besides gamefaqs, and a lot of their stuff is transcribed from onscreen) or in a format useful for text insertion.

The big worry is that early games use custom encodings so a prerequisite for producing a full text dump is to first transcribe a kanji font like pictured above in text form (otherwise the text will have gaps where the kana would go).

There are games with much more complicated text storage techniques but there's enough easy ones that are doable and could lead to good stuff. If we play our cards right we could even get a few ps1 era games done.

Also, I'm not a noob to Saturn emulation, I have a collection of Saturn isos and they all work fine on these emulators with my current setup, it's just this iso that refuses to work.

Disregard that, I'm an idiot.

Turns out I couldn't get it working on Retroarch's Beetle Saturn because the image was still mounted on Daemon Tools from when I tried it on SSF.

It really doesn't work on SSF, but works fine on Beetle Saturn.

Oh hey, this thread is still up.

Cleared the game a few days ago. It's nice but Centy is much better.

One of those games that don't seem as polished and balanced as it should be, but still a lot of fun to just play.

For people wondering, Yabause emulator just works, just make sure to disable "higher sound quality" immediately and only turn on the "frame limiting" after creating your save file or it crashes when trying to do so.

You can save in-game by trying to pause the game while in the map selection screen.

The manual in this thread is super important, specifically the parts about the weapons, magic and skills.

I was actually slightly interested in trying out this fan translation but I just never bothered looking for the ISO. Thanks for sharing, Anon.

Has anyone theorized the title should be translated like Wrinkle RIVER Story?

Mednafen for ease of use, SSF for compatibility, Yabuse for slight enhancements at the expense for shit compatibility.

>>16007275

Yabuse still eats shit at dozens of games SSF has emulated for years.

There's obviously no W in the title. At best you could say it's Rinkle River Story.

I don't think the title made much sense in the original japanese anyway.
