what the hell are you talking about, FM3 was huge, everyone I know fucking blasted cum all over themselves over that game when it was new. I never cared because I don't like SRPGs but FM3 easily stands among the greats in the SRPG genre

the "mainstream" of gaming if you could even call it that was basically platformers and sports/racing games, but gaming was so much smaller of a hobby back then and everything was niche compared to anything now, so if you didn't have friends playing these kinds of games you probably never heard about them because, keep in mind, this is really before the internet had become popular and most people playing games were in their 20s at the oldest (I was 17 in 1999)

it was just a different era altogether, but while front mission may be all but forgotten by the mass market today it was certainly popular at the time

Try AoW3, there is some RNG based on morale to determine crits but attacks always hit, cover only lowers dmg.

He probably finally got around to playing a lot of it and wanted to discuss that. What's the problem? Are we only allowed one thread about a particular game every two weeks? The only one of these I played was FM3 back like 10-12 years ago. I remember loving it but then just never got around to playing any others in the series. Can't remember long hair bros name but he was a cool dude. Is the rest of the series legitimately good or should I avoid tainting my fond memories of FM3?

I actually think that FM3 is one of the weaker links in the series. It isn't bad but it is more limited in options and more linear compared to other entries in the series.

FM1 on SNES has a translation patch while the DS version got an official internatonal release with an additional campaign

FM2 on PS1 has been translated. Haven't played it yet but series fans have called it tentatively the best

FM4 on PS2 is pretty good. The story switches between two different groups every few missions, and you'll find yourself constantly wanting to find out what the other guys are up to.

FM5 on PS2 has been translated. Also very good but I haven't played much of it

in FM3 you can change the entire story depending on whether you follow your buddy at the beginning. Hope you've tried both routes

I felt the opposite. Every time it switches you have to try to remember what roles and loadouts the people you're switching into had, then just when you're getting comfortable using them it switches back. And I don't give a shit about what's happening to the beaner niggermonkeys in some backwater shithole in the first place.

I remember that being the only way to get some of the better parts.

I remember 3 being really long and absolutely free of any challenge. Like, with the right setup you could destroy guys from out of range over the entire map.

Also the AI was nearly absent, units just sat there without making moves at all.

OP is a tougher man than me for stomaching that chore of a game.
