They say your sacrifice helps out other players online, and (vice versa) the sacrifices of other players can help you with this particular ending. It being "unbeatable" for solo players UNLESS you go online and get help from the sacrifices of others.

You beat the game and the ending credits is a bullet hell. When you get through it, which is fairly difficult and where the "people help you by erasing your saves and giving you continues" part comes in, after that you get a 5 second scene. Just get to that part and then watch it on youtube.
I found the combat to be horrible (no opportunity cost invincibility) and the game has a criminally low amount of areas/enemies. The first 5 hours will be the same as the next 40, but with bigger numbers. And the story involves androids/robots and feelings, shit's more predictable than The Notebook.

It's just that I think it's bad game design to add online features like this to a console game. Not every game is a Counter-Strike with enduring online support. Who knows if 20 years down the road, if future players could still have had assess this ending themselves, once the game's online support finally gets cut. Neat online ideas like this are ok for the short-term, but imo, they'll eventually detract negatively from a game's content in the long-term. Once the online features become inassessable.

I'm playing through for the first time and I'm currently going through the "B" playthrough. I'm still enjoying it, but after doing the Father Servo missions while being about 30 levels lower than him, I became really disillusioned with the combat. I tend to like Platinum's style of allowing you to figure out and master the mechanics to break the sequence on bosses and enemies to do assloads of damage and stunlock type stuff so you can turn a 30 minute fight into a 2 minute fight, but there just doesn't seem to be any of that in this game, which is really disappointing. Still liking the game, but it's not fun to realize that the depth you expected isn't there.

Why is this a huge problem? It's not at all an invasive online connection, you could play the entire game and only have to connect online for 10 minutes to get the true ending.
One benefit of the online is that you'll see player corpses scattered around the world. You can retrieve their bodies for a health boost and temporary boosts from their chips or repair it to have a temporary ally to help you fight. It's also pretty fun reading their death lines. That made the online connection worth it for that alone imo.
This shouldn't be an issue unless you were planning to pirate the game. If you are, don't. It's a legitimately good game.

False, the game explains perfectly why 2E constantly killing 9S due to the 9S constantly discovering the humans on the moon conspiracy is a just that and thus needs to be eliminated for YorHa to continue functioning.
As far as the base plot the game is completely self-contained. We don't need to know why A2 went rogue we only need to understand that she did. We don't need to know why or how the humans died just that they did. We don't need to know how Poppola and Devola fucked up killing humanity but the game tells us they did. You don't need to know who or what Emil is for the story to make sense either. All of those things are cool to know and make the experience more pleasurable, but it's not required.
The original Nier as this exact same set up where if you didn't get Ending E of Drakengard you wouldn't understand who the dragon was or what the "salt syndrome", but you would still be able to understand the plot of NieR in and of itself.
Nothing in Automata or the original NieR require outside resources to make sense of the plot, they only flush out the world and fill in specifics.

- There is a single boss fight in Automata. The gay dudes are fought thrice and they're just glorified mobs; the mechas fought on the plane are really just minigames; the razor arm boss is literally copypasted from Platinum's Anarchy; and the ball boss is really just an interactive cutscene.
- The second playthrough with 9S is boring and superflous, it doesn't hold a candle to the mindfuck of Nier's second play. People were right when they complained about having to replay it: because it's CHEAP and the cutscenes that are supposed to twist your perspective on machines are OBVIOUS.

The machines that deviate from the norm of "kill and slaughter the things we need to kill and slaughter" are actually programmed to do so; all machines are coded to fight the enemy as their sole responsibility, so they allow deviations from that code as a means to create a stable balance between their own survival as well as the ability to immediately adapt and put down any enemy that rises up, while also not completely crushing them, so as not to completely wipe out a potential enemy, thus continuing the endless cycle. Pascal, the forest king, the amusement park robots and every other faction that seems to go on a weird path, including adam and eve, were designed to just not be as good at fighting the androids so they could keep their enemy alive just to do more battle with them.

I just tried out this game for the first time today and I unironically hate it so far, my complaints are:

The combat just feels clunky, the environments are nice but I'm already getting tired of the little robots there's more personal incentive for me to run past them then deal with them. I'll try it again now that it's opened up but I'm not having a fun time with the basic mechanics and may drop after 3-4 hours. I had more fun, mechanically, with the transformers game by platinum.

I never said it was hard, I said it feels like clunky ass to play in fact the boss fight is too easy which makes it extra boring. Not only that but after dodging his attacks it can put you far out of position reducing the amount of damage you can deal in these moments making it even slower, the intro section just plain sucks.
And it's way too long.
