Personally, I played it for fun, finished, increased the difficulty, played up to the Roller Mobster level, finished it and voluntarily quit because the rest is an unrewarding trek. I was satisfied at the end of it.

It is determined by the following

>kills

>damage taken

>backstabs

>side-objectives completed

>detections

It also used to be impossible to get 10 in some areas due to a bug, which is partly the reason why the idea of Klaadum's ladder was ditched. Well that and the fact that detections and backstabs mean that you actually need to stay in stealth as much as possible. But yes, rank 10 is possible.

That is a message you get when you crit. Failure is simply you getting a weaker version of a crit. But since crits are already overpowered, it is still a one-shot despite being weaker.

Codenames are worthless because obtaining them is basically "lol, do mission this way 3 times and fuck off"

Let me tell yeah, I didn't even think this was possible when I first played DMC2 all those years ago, but I actually did have allot more fun actually trying to play DMC2 well.

Rather then just spamming guns like pretty much everyone who talks about DMC2 always says they do. DMC2 isn't a well designed game due to the circumstances in which it was made, but I still find it a very fascinating one, that I enjoy like any other DMC game.

I'd recommend against it. You're not gonna have fun with the non-lethal missions since I recall there being a bug that would reset your combo meter for no reason at all.

Also the level design is absolutely terrible.

I do think that People just don't know about how the directional combos work in DMC2, since the game has no move list, and no moves to buy like in DMC1 that teach you about inputs.

That doesn't excuse DMC2's other flaws but still, Dante, Luca, and Trish have plenty of cool things they can do, Like Trish can stab Sparda into the Ground and just go Barehanded, I wish you could still do that in DMC4SE.

The only problem I have with it is that it introduces this weird proto style system that DMC 3 sort of actually expounds on; the dedicated roll being a separate button from the jump, each button basically being its own style aside from jump, and no royal guard type is all kinda nauseating when I actually started to play, but the game is pretty fun for what it is. It's no devil may cry 1 but it did its best with being a half formed bastard sequel, and I'd still call it a better game than the reboot.

Considering no one at Capcom seems to knows how DMC2 even got made, I think it's fine for what it is it. DMC2 was rushed out the door after DMC1 was successful with no plan at all, and no one on the team who seemed to understand what made DMC1 work until Itsuno ended up as director near the end of development, yet you can still see the game tried to innovate the series, all of DMC2's good ideas got refined in DMC3 so in a way DMC3 couldn't have happened without DMC2.

The Reboot has no excuse for being the way it is since they had 5 years, and just look at DMC5 to see what 5 years can do.

In the same way, DmC caused DMC4SE and DMCV to spring into production, and DMC4SE gave us a glimpse into how much fun DMCV could possibly be, especially with a new character; I have low hopes for it either way, since it looks like the visual style that was retained from 3 to 4 has been lost, and it looks like every other unreal game; I hope for the best though.

It really feels like they didn't play their own game before releasing it since HM1 was so much more fair because the levels were smaller and there weren't millions of windows with guns behind them. Meanwhile even when holding shift to look as far ahead as you possibly can you still can't see some of those niggers with guns at the end of hallways behind a fucking window. Half of the levels with Pardo and Beard are just fucking bullshit in that game because there are enemies that you have to just shoot down a hallway and hope you hit them before a bullet comes out of the ether and kills you.

Itsuno is at his best when he has to fix other peoples messes.

While you can not be a fan of the more realistic art style, I get that, There is absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to the gameplay.

For example V has a Shadow from DMC1 as one of his familiars, and the mother fucker can jump on the Spike is shoots out just like in DMC1.

I have no doubt DMC5 is going to be one of the best games to come out in the last 10 years.

Its like after releasing HM1 they forgot how to make HM. The bonus bowling ally and convention levels at the end of HM1 were built exactly like HM2. Way too big, and with no solid walls to break up the action. Add the fact that 2 decided to have "floors" that were bigger than entire multi floor levels in HM1 was just fucking retarded. Don't even get me fucking started on how anti-fun beard was to play too.

Didn't the creators pretty much said that they didn't want to make the sequel? That could explain why the levels are so poor: they just didn't care. But that bears the question, If you they didn't what to work in HM2 why they did it anyways? It's not like they weren't alien with the concept of fucking with the fans, hell, HM1 constantly makes fun of the player for expecting any kind of resolution or point.

On top of that, the replay value of 2 it's fucked, you are always stuck playing the same levels with the same characters, there's no variety. It sucks, I actually liked the selection of music that 2 has in comparison with 1.

The already mentioned terrible post-launch bonus levels in the first game along with the second game having super basic shit like doors being completely broken, combos breaking for no reason and the level editor that took YEARS to finally release points more to them being incompetent than trying to fuck with you. I mean, Kojima really didn't want to make metal gear solid 2, and used it as an excuse to really fuck with people but it was still a good game. I like when you get an overall rank for completing a playthrough. It takes far more skill than mindlessly grinding one level, and is a much more daunting and satisfying challenge. Ideally it should penalize saving, and be lenient enough that a high score isn't just about luck and memorization.

I did the same with HM1, and I played 2. I have never once felt the need to replay 2. It was a fucking slog and was not fun. Music is absolutely great, but the level design is awful as many people have said here already. The pacing is fucked sideways with a lot of the levels being way to goddamn slow. Hell, even the story is kind of bad relative to the first game. The characters are great and all that (and certain scenes are still amazing), but it's so disjointed and all over the place, while also feeling completely different in tone. At least it did for me, it didn't quite have that same vibe to it where you weren't sure if it's just Jacket who is fucking crazy or not — HM2 everything just feels completely insane all the time, and it's unambiguous about it all.

Hideaki Itsuno has never be solely responsible for a bad game, the man has never let me down, whenever something goes wrong with a game that has his name on, it's always because of outside interference.

DMC2 he was shoved on last minute and he could only fix so much.

DMC4 was rushed out before it was finished Thanks to the higher ups.

DmC was made by Ninja theroy and he could only fix so much.

Dragons Dogma also wasn't as complete as it should have been thanks to the high ups.

Every time Capcom Fucks up they then let him be free to do his thing and he makes a fantastic game, My only hope is that after DMC5 Itsuno gets to make Dragons Dogma 2, since it's clear that he really wants too, and It would be a shame for him to be stuck with only DMC when he could do more.
