How much of a completionist are you?
I usually only play a game once and try to see as much as it offer me, but I won't play through side content if it isn't interesting or rewarding, and I won't retread an entire game again just to see a different ending.
It sucks because I'm playing an RPG right now and while I'm not hating it, I feel like I need to finish every quest before I can move on to another game so I don't feel like I've left it unfinished

Yeah I was playing Skyrim and, like a few other RPGs, I get overwhelmed and just put the game down entirely. It sucks and I want to stop doing it especially since I'm getting Kingdom Come Deliverance soon.

Games like Banjo-Kazooie, Crash and Spyro are nice to 100% because all you have to do is play the levels properly. Games that require grinding, doing numerous shitty chores or replaying it ad nauseam aren't fun to complete. Some of the latter include GTA, The Binding of Isaac and most, if not all open world games.
b6a3cd No.15903006
I'm becoming less and less of one as I get older. Back in the PS1 days, I tried to 100% all the games I played. Nowadays, I'd have to really like a game to even see all the different endings.
4c1787 No.15903032
I don't care about different endings, but I generally have hard time finishing the game until I've done everything. If I sense a last boss coming, I'll turn back and won't return until there's nothing else to do.
I don't recall doing everything in Skyrim, if the game is too open ended like that then I'll just do whatever I feel like, though I'll probably at least want to visit every location.
Agree with >>15902986, the good kind of completionism (that's a word now) is where you have to find all the secrets and complete all the levels. The bad kind is where you have to grind levels up or kill every monster in the game multiple times for a bestiary or complete vapid radiant-tier MMO quests that are just padding to hide the lack of actual content in the game.
b66bdb No.15903051
I'll explore as much af I can and go through all of the content of it isn't a slog, but otherwise I'll just keep going as long as I'm having fun. If there's good content gated behind completion, I'll go for 100%. For example, I 100% just about every platformer I play, but I've never even considered going for 100% in a gta

Many games you can't really fully complete since every playthrough will be different. Like most RPGs - another character means a completely new experience. Or even something like Jagged Alliance 2 - the amount of mercenary combinations is massive.
Anyway, I'm not much of a completionist these days. It's a success if I even clear a game at all. I never replay them and just look up the different endings on the internet (if I cared about a game that much). I mean, forcing yourself to play for all the endings is kind of pointless. You played the game the way you wanted to the first time - and you got the ending you deserve. Why pretend to be another player?
Now if a game has unlocks like cars or weapons, I try to get all of them. That is if I like the game enough.

I wouldn't mind this, but most games give different endings based on easily missable content or performance/resource management that can only be possible when you already have knowledge of the game.

You can look that up then. But I meant mostly games like Undertale or Deus Ex Invisible War - you wanted to kill everyone and you got the genocide ending. Why be pacifist all of a sudden? Or you've allied with the Illuminati and that's the ending you get.

I play until I stop having fun. Typically that is before "100%" since a lot of games just have tedious shit I don't want to do to achieve that. If I feel like I'm forcing myself to keep going I just drop it. I'll also keep playing something long after I've done everything if I still get enjoyment from it. Even with most games being shit today, there is so much to play that it's hard to stick with one game for a really long time unless I really love it.

I'm like you a bit. I prefer to 100% the stuff I enjoy doing in any game. If there is some collection bullshit that is just not enjoyable (like the animal collection in MGSV) I'll ignore it as much as possible. Something like KOTOR, I'll 100% the quests in each playthrough.
And now that I'm playing Borderlands 2 with a buddy while couch cooping, I'm feeling like we need to burn through side quests before moving the story forward. But we're already overleveled in True Vault Hunter mode so the rewards are not worth it for us.

I bought all the trophy's in the secret shop in Nier:automata. That's how much of a completionist I am.
For real though. It depends. If the game is really fun obviously I'll go for 100% but even then sometimes the grind gets to be too much and I stop. On the other hand, if a game's platinum is notoriously difficult to get, I'll do it just for bragging rights. For example, every second of grinding in ff10 made me want to violently slam my head through the fucking wall but when I finally beat penance and the plat popped up I felt amazing. And if you talk to someone who has done the same it's like you're comrades who've been though a war together.

When games started becoming more grind than games, I stopped being a completionist. I think it was circa 2010? give or take a fuck or two.
I used to hardcore complete every game I played, I never put a game down unless I was sure I was done with it. Then Achievements and Trophies came on the scene and then, my hardcore obsession was being rewarded with retard stickers. I felt no joy from this nonsense unless I really enjoyed the game and as time passed, the number of games I actually enjoyed started to shrink drastically.
According to Xbox Live , Steam and PSN, the last time I actually gave any fucks about 100%ing a game was Splatterhouse because it was fucking fun.

Games that have clear 100% requirements that don't require substantial content recycling I will typically try and go for 100%.
Examples Quake (100% secrets, including hidden levels) and Mario 64 (all 120 stars). Even racing games can do this if implemented properly (F Zero X beat all cups Master and beat all staff ghosts).
Games like RPGs or roguelites are probably the worst offenders here so I would almost never bother to 100% them.

I will do everything in a game as I go along. I hate backtracking so I optimize my routes through the world/level. However, I will start to ignore quests if they start turning into "get 10 wolf pelts for me adventurer because I'm too retarded to go to the pelt shop down the road." Even a simple "go into dungeon x and collect object/rescue person" is enough to get me to go in there.
