I played through Bayonetta for the first time recently. The only other game somewhat like it that I've played is NieR, which is what piqued my interest in Platinum in the first place. I'd really like to keep playing on the harder difficulties, but I also want to catch up on the other action games I missed out on. Any big recommendations besides DMC and MGR?

f9dfa5  No.15901290

Recently beat Twilight Princess, it's been a long time since I played through the game. Got everything including the 60 poes for the first time as well as a loach catch and beating all 64 levels of Rollgoal.

Freedom Fighters and Robotech Battlecry. Freedom Fighters was far too short and ended when things were really picking up. The little that was there was really good though.

Robotech had some sluggish controls which made certain missions pretty tough, but shooting down ayys with a transforming mech was pretty cool.

I almost got locked out of an evolution so I decided to do some research and found what I had to do before reaching level 30.

How was Mario galaxy

ecfac9  No.15901850

>>15901285

Try out Transformers Devastation while you're at it. 5 heroes, tons of weapons, damn good combat, and a reunion of the original cast. Kinda short but great

e662aa  No.15902013

>>15901828

Pretty decent. I hadn't played it in years, so it felt kind of fresh again, and I when it comes to replaying Mario games, I don't do so all that often. Mostly rather easy, but some of those one-star levels are a right pain (like that cake galaxy).

Still seems an annoying choice that every time you boot it back up you're down to five lives, though what with the star bit mechanic, it's not especially hard to build them back up.

>I'd really like to keep playing on the harder difficulties, but I also want to catch up on the other action games I missed out on. Any big recommendations besides DMC and MGR?

Biggest recommendation is to keep playing on the harder difficulties instead of moving on to something else immediately. Normal mode is mostly a tutorial, you need to challenge yourself to see if you actually learned anything about the combat. Go for ranks, do the Alfheims, you'll have more fun.

Besides Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Transformers Devastation are going to have the most mechanical similarities to Bayo.

a6fad4  No.15902571

>>15902505

>Normal mode is mostly a tutorial

This makes sense, the combat began to click for me towards the end of normal mode, and so far hard mode has been easier than the entirety of my first play-through. Alfheim's are kind of a pain in the ass at times though, and backtracking for encounters took me longer than it should have to start doing.

e662aa  No.15902588

>>15902579

Kind of a combination of Mega Man (you can use the bracelet as a blaster alongside Elie's handbag as a weapon), Metroid (exploration and new abilities to progress), and a pet sim (pet can be evolved by appealing to the current form's likes, improve stats, learn new skills, and once mastered "summon" the move while in non-native forms). Game's got some issues, but it's fun. OST is also surprising good.

Should also state that you can effectively revert at will from various evolutions, so it's not like you're locked into a particular track of pet. Of course, if you don't max out a prior form's appeal prior to level 30 (Chomp levels pretty fast), you won't be able to get to the higher forms stemming from it. Also not the sort of game you want to 100%; learn new forms, master new moves, but hitting level 30 in all forms is an exercise in tedium.

Every now and then I have a weird burst of energy where I blow right through a bunch of games, and this time I played through Killer is Dead, Jet Set Radio, Sunset Overdrive, Metal Gear Rising, and replayed Sonic Adventure 2 all in that order. Unfortunately things are back to normal now because even though I started playing Duke Nukem 3D and Metal Gear Solid, I haven't touched either of them in a few days.

Tales of Phantasia X for the PSP, easily the best version of the game. I had only actually finished the SNES one even though I played the GBA TRASH and PS1 ports, so it felt pretty good. I'll never regret having learned japanese

>>15908484

Did you choose Chris or Jill?

e662aa  No.15908683

>>15908502

I think part of the issue comes from not trying to appeal to both classic fans and newer ones, and instead making the game much more appealing to newer fans that are used to the more modern appeal since that's more where the money is. Also the trend towards clearing games to be remade that don't really need them to begin with, because there's easier money to do so for already popular ones than less popular games that don't hold up quite as well. Probably also depends a lot on the staff involved as well; losing key people that worked on the originals, who would (should?) know firsthand the strengths and weaknesses of the prior, doesn't help. It's unfortunate how most modern remakes handle, to the point there's good reason to automatically be leery upon hearing an announcement. You're lucky if a remake can even be on-par with the original these days, let alone surpass it.

Also a shame to hear about an actually really good remake, where the original game warranted it and the new version far and away the better, that will never be natively playable because the companies at hand didn't consider the market here big or interested enough.

Ghost Rider and The Van-helsing both on PS2 are very solid action games.

Van Helsing is best played after playing Devil May Cry 1 since it's so clearly inspired by that game in particular

Also while everyone is dismissive of the series for the trends it popularized like QTE's, God of War 1 to Ascension are perfectly fine games. Even if the story is only well writen in GoW 1 and the 2 PSP games.

>Quern - Undying Thoughts

It's an indie Myst clone that I've had my eye on for a while. It was good. Mostly takes inspiration from the design philosophy of Myst III onwards where the game shifts focus from grounded worldbuilding to a contrived puzzle box, but the puzzles themselves were still enjoyable. Preferred it to The Witness but didn't like it as much as Obduction.

>Devil Daggers

It's not a game I've "beaten" but I still got a new personal best, so I'll probably put it back on the shelf for now. Or not, I've broken my record every day for three consecutive days and I know I can do even better if I push myself a little more.

>Paratopic

Still have to run through a few more times to see a few more things, but I really dug this little thing. It feels like an evolution of those RPGmaker horror games you'd play back in the day, like Hello? Hell…o? or LISA. I never subscribed to the idea that lowpoly was cruise control for horror, but it definitely contributed to this one.

Deus Ex.

Absolutely loved it,now it's one of my favourite games.

Everything about it was amazing and JC is a treasure that should be preserved for future generations.

I was also amazed of how difficult was the dilemma at the end.

Still I did the Helios end with no regrets, fuck Illuminati.
