When I was a kid, the only thing I seemed to be interested in was video games and music. Naturally since I didn't have any income I turned to soundtracks downloaded in post angelfire and geocities websites like ffshrine and khinsider.
Since then I have acquired something like 50 gigabytes of video game music.
Just wanted to share the memory. Vidya music thread

Whole soundtrack's one of those "weird but good" sorts, but this one, with its indecipherable Relares lyrics (a language for the game; some words do have translations, but not in the context of a song) and dissonance between both voices, is one that stands out.

I've only played the first 7th Dragon and VFD. I definitely enjoyed VFD a ton due to all the stupid OP shit you could do. It was challenging at times but I think it's as fun as the first game, if not more. Though you don't have to run through poisonous flowers 24/7 now.

I really did like the jazzy tunes that Elympios had in the Xillias though. Namely because it wasn't something the series does a lot.

Shiina at least knows how to work with the series, being usually relegated to arrangement work, but yes, he (she? not sure) did a great job with Legendia, to the point it's really the highlight of that game. But bringing in new composers suddenly can be a risky business. Has to be some level of respect for the tone the series is going for, and what had been done prior. Something like Square bringing in, as one anon put it, "2hu shitters" for nuSecret of Mana's OST (instead of letting Kikuta fully do his own arrangements; why the fuck they didn't I don't know, but I'd think the original composer would be the best suited to knowing what can or can't be done with their prior work) wasn't a smart move. Something like having Agematsu and Kouda take over for Michiko Naruke after she got sick partway through composition of Wild Arms 4 worked out for even the games afterward, because there was an apparent respect for the series having had really good music under her, leading to the OSTs for the later games both fitting the established vibe, whilst still having their own distinct flair.
