Fallout 76 was a hugely mismanaged project that really expose Bethesda for the rotten, lazy, corporate-culture driven shitstains that they really are. I disagree that it bombed harder or was even a blunder for that matter. It was set up for failure from the get go, it didn't defy anyone's expectations at all. But it wasn't made to succeed, it was made to be a hunk of leftist propaganda and historical revisionism and it corresponds to that role perfectly. Just because the propaganda was insufferable and nauseating to anyone that hasn't drank deep on the soy-based koolaid doesn't make it a blunder. It's only a blunder for misinformed investors that seem to think EA is still making games for people who actually like videogames.
Fallout 76 on the otherhand went out of it's way to fuck up absolutely everything it could. From the excessively busted gameplay even by betheda standards, to data breaches, to straight out scamming and lying to customers, the release has been one massive chain of slapstick comedy that keeps giving. It's the kind of clusterfuck that potentially created multiple civil lawsuits against them. BFV was bad so it didn't sell, but 76 was so bad that it's actually getting them sued.

Same reasons. Battleborn was bad, designed for an audience that didn't exist, and tried pulling customers away from already solidly established franchises. It was dead on arrival because it tried to reach for something that wasn't there. No Man's Sky did bring in an audience, generated massive hype in the normalfag sphere, but fell on its face so hard it left a crater. I'd only argue that Mighty No. 9 might have left a bigger crater. That's a tough call.
In both of these cases though you're comparing a dud to a violent implosion. The damage report and consumer blow-back define the blunder more definitely. Just how many and how badly were consumer expectations shattered? How did the company handle it? From what I remember: Watchdogs was, to many, a breath of fresh air amidst a 2013-14 garbage pile of rehashes, sequels, and cash grabs, plus the gameplay looked promising at the time, like a decent mix of Splinter Cell and GTA, but the game we actually got was a buggy mess that looked ten times worse, even with realistic expectations, with a botched launch (somebody put out a custom patch that changed one config option to make the game run and look better) and weak GTA-lite gameplay with a ''T00 1337 H4CK3R 4U" gimmick. Also, vid related.
It would have improved the game slightly if Ubisoft ditched the open-world aspect and do something like Crysis 1 with huge linear levels, and give the "hacking" abilities more meaningful interactions instead of tack on. Better yet, make weapons a last-resort option and hacking the main tool, like a cyber-punk Hitman.

I've only played two titles on that list. Driver 3, which must have been fixed because I don't recall any problems with it and The Order 1886 which I got only to make the limit for free shipping, it was 5 dollars and it saved me 7. 76 is a fuckup the likes of which we might never see again, it was hyped up garbage primed to milk normalfags dry in an attempt to chase the forkknife dragon through giving people multiplayer fallout, but every week there is some new turn of events that makes the shitshow worse and worse, who knows where it will end.
Diablo Immortal was pretty bad haven’t heard word of it since it happened.
Valve’s backtracking on their content rules showing how chaotic their command structure operates is pretty heinous but steam was always cancer, and card game failing shows how out of touch they are.

I'm a lazy shit so I just checked the Wikipedia entries for both. Bayo 2 was reported to have shipped 300k worldwide + 400k ww on the Switch, which we can't count here. The Order didn't have a figure. Just a quote from some third rate rag saying it topped the charts in the UK despite poor reviews.
The website VGChartz (no idea how reputable they are, but probably more so than Wikipedia) reports Bayo 2 hitting 850k total for just the Wii U + 460k for the Switch. The Order amassed a total of 1.62 million.
Worth noting that the bulk of The Order's numbers come from the UK, but it did still outsell Bayo 2 in the states, albeit by not nearly as large a margin.

To make matters worse, Bethesda is a privately owned company. I can see a good many fuckups like these being done to please investors who don't know games, don't care about games, and are only looking at leverage to increase growth potential. That's how companies like EA get their reputation. When you have investors, people like us aren't the customers - the shareholders are. We are just the means of producing cash. But Bethesda/Zenimax are not beholden to shareholders. Their coffers are filled by actual sales of their products, not by duping investors into giving them money through the stock exchange. They should be more than capable of stepping back and objectively assessing the damage it's doing to their brand and work to minimize their losses by dialing back their greed a hair and taking things slowly to try to smooth things over.
But nope… there's seemingly no brakes on this crazy train. It has to be sabotage. Someone in Bethesda is pissed off that the bosses aren't giving them the funding to do their job properly and develop the tools they need to stay relevant… so they're dangling the live services carrot on a stick in front of the owners to get them to invest a bit in new studio acquisitions, new talent, and developing new technology. Once they had all that money, funnel that into project they want to work on - meanwhile pumping out a pile of shit for next to no budget that's so rancid that heads start to roll as the question of accountability starts to come up.

I can hardly believe how many people expected a multiplayer version of the glitchy, puddle-deep abortion that is Fallout 4 to have been good. It's only thing I'm surprised by regarding the game.
