There going to be a bigger push for control input accessibility for disabled players.

It started this year with that Xbox accessibility controller.

Then some games have been having the option of having quicktime button presses become button holds instead.

While in the past months came the complaints about things like Pokemon LGPE having the forced motion controls in console mode but analogue stick in handheld.

As long as the disabled accessibility features are optional/customizable and won't effect normal players (as in single player, not multi) it will be okay but with gaming journalists being idiots they will probably start being harsher (possibly in the wrong way) on any game that doesn't start have those features in it.

i have no idea what youre talking about with the smoke grenades, but yes, before you develop better stuff, most missions, especially the challenge missions posed an actual challenge.

the repetitive missions allowed for experimentation. you'd come back later to very similar missions with different equipment and try things in different ways. over time the equipment made it exceedingly easy so they also offered missions where you had conditions like no-equipment, etc.

I omitted a few but I don't want to reveal all my material for the upcoming year

After Dusk and Overload I'm kind of hopeful for both Bombshell and Amid Evil and Project Warlock. Those two games really rekindled my love for FPS and I found myself giving Build engine games and Doom a rerun and I've really enjoyed myself this year, among other games like Exapunks and Copy Kitty.

I really hope Sakuna, Touhou Luna Nights, Phoenix Point and End State come out next year and are as every bit as good as they look and I think I'll be more than happy with 2019. Maybe some new good hardware will show up so I can go get myself cheap hardware from 3 or so years ago and play ni-oh or something but I don't know if nioh is really worth it. I also wish Battlefleet Gothic 2 would be good and give GW an idea to make good 40k games for a change but I'm not holding my breath if I'm being honest.

Regarding anything else, I could not care less about what AAA and "mainstream indie" fuckers are up to, they can keep drowing themselves in sewage for all I care.

The thing in 2019 will be abandoning SJW principles and markets for trying to gain the Chinese market. The big publishers will only pretend to be SJWs, because they'll use that as an excuse for their rampant censorship they'll have to do to sell their games in China.

From the last few years, it's clear major publishers feel that they need to expand to new markets to continue growth. They tried to appeal to women and SJWs, and after a year of that their stocks are in the tank and their major series are not selling well. The SJWs have to answer to the people with money. I think we've seen them have their chance, and they blew it. Remember, most of this SJW stuff comes from SJWs telling investors that they can sell more copies of games because of things like

<50% of gamers are female and your game doesn't appeal to them!

<you could sell 50% more games if you make these changes to appeal to females!

And it never worked out. Publishers are hungry for a larger market, the traditional gaming market isn't enough to satisfy people like EA, Ubisoft, etc.

My guess is that we'll see the publishers who aren't really committed to social justice bail and run to China as fast as possible, while the ones that have been truly infected my socjus will continue pushing for socjus until they die. And they will die, socjus doesn't sell in China, it doesn't sell in the West either. If you have some publishers bending over backwards for Chinese market state censorship and selling games in China, and you have SJW committed publishers pushing more socjus crap, the socjus publishers will finally crash and burn.

The push for China is going to be huge, it will be final nail in game journalist coffins, as the Chinese market is larger than the fake "gamer" numbers SJW push, and game journalists already have limited reach in that market. China will cut their influence into a small fraction.

I don't really see why Sony absorbing Microsoft's console audience would push out Nintendo. Sure they'd have a bigger portion of the market, but I don't see Nintendo's audience making the jump too. Next year actually looks much better, nothing like 1998 or the like. At the very least it looks like another 2017, which was pretty good all things considered. We're getting Devil May Cry 5, Ace Combat 7, Daemon X Machina, Biomutant, Bloodstained, Battletoads, and a bunch more in the same year. Something else to note is that this year will probably have the announcements of the PS5, Xbox 4 and the Switch which is rumored to be powered by an overclocked Tegra X2. So I expect Death Stranding, Cyberpunk and Metroid Prime 4 to release this year based on wanting to sell the new hardware.

That said while I do worry about the political environment in video games and I do think it'll continue on during the next year, I do think the "wokeness" will die down considerably due to the fact that these "woke" games have been selling extremely poorly with Battlefield 5 and Ubisoft underperforming in the stock market, but will still try to push these ideologies due to getting funds from Canada and the EU, in addition to catering to the Chinese markets.

That said I think things will generally be more positive next year, but then again I'm an optimist.

I suspect they will make customization better too and you'll be able to get new clothes or whatever instead of just recoloring your standard look. Yeah, talking about endgame, I really hope they balance it out in a different way than in BL2 - OP levels were just not enjoyable, a bandit could do as much as to fart in your general direction and you'd be taken down to healthgate instantly. That would be so fucking cash. I know that in BL1 you could get some legendary hybrids that were essentially two legendary/unique parts spawning in one gun but that was more of a bug. Binding legendary "status" to just barrel part in BL2 essentially eliminated the possibility of hybrids spawning. Introducing hybrids as a feature but balancing it out so finding/producing one would be very costly or only available in super late game would be such a cool fucking thing. But I doubt it will ever happen knowing gearbox…

Besides keeping an eye out for games like in my last prediction, I'll probably just give up on modern gaming and go through what I have (and even then, probably purge some of my backlog games that aren't fun and/or challenging), then move on to other hobbies. That being said, I wouldn't stop keeping an eye on what's going on in the gaming world and help spread the word on any bullshit that comes up in the meantime.
