Oh boy.
Turrican 2 did get ported to the SNES/Genesis by some outsourced team, but then some publisher had the idea to turn Turrican 2 into a movie tie-in video game for some Jean Claude-van Damme movie called Universal Soldier, so they replaced the main character's sprite with some marine, alongside a lot of other enemy sprites. So the first boss you fight isn't a giant robot, but a giant Dolph Lundgren instead. They cut out the shmup stages and replaced them with stages of their own to make the game fit the story of the movie more, but these new stages are pretty damn bad. The music doesn't hold a candle to the original Amiga version, or even what Huelsbeck would go on to do later with Mega and Super Turrican. That said the gameplay itself does play identically to the original, it's just that the stages, graphics, and music were butchered.
Turrican 1 did receive a decent port to the Genesis (by the same team behind the Universal Soldier thing), but the music was also butchered, so they just raised the volume of the SFX to cover it up. Switching weapons in the Genesis version is awkward too, so you're better off just playing the Amiga version for both games.
