>At Epic, our goal is to help game developers succeed. Throughout 2019, we’ll be launching a large set of cross-platform game services originally built for Fortnite, and battle-tested with 200,000,000 players across 7 platforms. These services will be free for all developers, and will be open to all engines, all platforms, and all stores. As a developer, you’re free to choose mix-and-match solutions from Epic and others as you wish.

>All services will be operated in a privacy-friendly, GDPR-compliant manner.

>We connect developers and players across all platforms, and respect existing platform relationships and player accounts. For example, Fortnite runs on 7 platforms that are fully interoperable; the game requires no login on console, and supports multi-platform login via Facebook, Google, Xbox Live, PSN, and Nintendo accounts, in addition to Epic accounts; and supports Twitch account linking.

>Besides these existing account and service integrations, we’re eager to work with partners on further efforts to connect accounts, gaming services, and cloud services for a more seamless experience.

Epic really has it out for Valve, huh?

aedad6  No.15861893

It's more Tencent wanting to control the industry more than anything. Never trust the Chinese.

Your goal is to skim off the top of developer's hard work just like Valve does.

b37911  No.15862060

Valve has absolutely enormous coffers. All they have to do to ensure their survival is undercut these clowns and take the reduced profits until they crumble, and then jack them right up.

The "Epic Store" is a really forced meme that has come out of absolutely nowhere.

Its big "advantage" over Steam is that they take less of the cut than Valve does. I've never cared about this though, this has only ever fucked over publishers. I, the consumer, did not suffer. Why the fuck should I care what some jew publisher is being screwed out of as long as the end price remains unchanged? I shouldn't.

Most importantly though, I don't want 40% of the money I pay going to the fucking chinks, and neither should you. This Epic Store push in recent weeks absolutely reeks of chinese interference in western markets.

148750  No.15862102

This going to lead to people saying fuck it and not bothering with either.

d47ad8  No.15862111

its very underdeveloped right now and probably right now only has the cut/share going for it

day it match Steam in functionality and user experience is when it takes any foothold, something everyone else is also failing

>Indie devs

Good, fuck them. People have been bitching about the flood of shovelware garbage which is choking Steam for years now. Let them go be Epic's problem. Their Chinese overlords will feel right at home in that pile of zero-effort, knockoff, and barely functional garbage. What few games that actually end up being worth playing, let alone being good enough for most people to warrant a purchase, will find their way over to Steam the same as they find their way onto the Xbox and Playstation and Switch.

90% of indies are scammers, "learning as they go" single-dev amateurs, or pretentious artfags trying to pass off their low-effort atmospheric garbage as the some important milestone for the industry.

So, what's going to happen once the Fortnite bubble eventually bursts? because it looks like they are hedging all their bets on Fortnite raking in the cash for them to fund this experiment for years when we all know Fortnite will be replaced by something else in the near future.

4b2132  No.15862183

>>15862167

They know Fortnite won't last. It's why they're making this move now. Epic's name is bigger than ever now thanks to this piece of shit, and they have to make their move into the game market or get shut out. Tencent has control of the Chink game market and they want to hold the west as well.

I'm sure Fortnite's nubmers dipped by a small amount when Red Dead came out, and they know it's going to slowly go on its way out. It's why it was announced and pushed out so quickly and seemingly so out of nowhere.

EA has had "EA online" for years. it's cross platform. it is used to "keep your stats on EA games cross platform" what EA said. it's also used to keep you from playing their old games online. they don't what you playing madden 2015 in 2018 EA shuts down access to EA online on it's old games making the Online unplayable. even games on PC.

your now going to start seeing indie devs do this when they come out with a new game they will disable their epic online service to force you to get their new game.

They have made an absolutely absurd amount of money from Fortnite already. If the bubble popped today, I expect that they probably could still fund this shit for years. Not that they would, mind you.

To give you an idea

> Forbes reported that Fortnite brought in $126 million in February, $223 million in March and $296 million in April.

Fortnite has probably already made Epic billions, they just want to see how far it will go. I wouldn't be surprised if Epic becomes one of those immortal zombie companies like Nintendo, that no amount of flops will ever kill.

I saw a figure somewhere online (so of course it's real and true) that Steam takes like 60% of profits, whereas Epic will offer something like 80% to the developers. I agree that Steam can and will crush them like cockroaches on the margins but competing with Fornite on a user by user basis is going to be nearly impossible. How many retards do you think are only ever going to use the Epic store because that's "the Fortnite store"?

dc210e  No.15863405

it's been 30% for ages, stop reading stupid shit from retarded indie devs (and even before the recent change in fees you could get a bigger cut). no one would use steam if it would be 60.

tbh I like the whole drama, shows which devs are retarded sellouts (looking at coffee stain, how many fortnite players they think are gonna buy satisfactory?).

all it's inevitably gonna take is some indie dev go full retard like they always do and clickbait articles cropping up everywhere that even normalfags take notice.

86235a  No.15863756

Steam takes 30% cut from revenue by default. Then they take another 5% to 10% from possible micro transaction store sales, due to small purchases potentially flooding them with payment processing costs.

On top of that potential 3rd party engine suppliers are taking their cuts as well.

Only likely positive results from Tencent Game Store I think that will be likely that some assetflips becoming EGS exclusives and Steams revenue cut to indie developers becoming more reasonable as their costs related to file hosting decreasing from what those used to be decade or so ago when their costs were actually higher.

4b2132  No.15864189

>>15864183

That's true, and if Epic has some big games they want PLUS Fortnite, that's the more convenient option. If this storefront got Red Dead 2, it would instantly have a substantial userbase.

86235a  No.15864917

>>15864189

The problem is that Epic hasn't made that many good games since UT2004. Fortnite just happened to be at right place at right time, it was shitty zombie shooter that they turned into free to play battle royale and somehow managed to capture all the audience. It happened overnight. Huge portion of their player base is kids and they might jump ship very fast if something more appealing to them appears.

Their only actually good products are their engines. They are trying to get indie developers to their stores with aggressive spending to get them to do exclusives for their games, so far they have managed to get some quality developers for one year exclusivity deals. It takes year or two see what kind of effect this has on PC-gaming market.

>>15864618

>No company is to big to fail. All can, and will, be brought down in due time.

That depends on how much money their investors want to get out of company on short term. If they get too greedy, it might collapse pretty fast.
