How do you maneuver your mouse when playing vidya? I feel like most people probably use claw or fingertip, unless you have small enough baby manlet hands to do a palm grip. I've used fingertip my whole life, and recently have been thinking about beyond that to actually moving the mouse - it seems like many people consider using arm movements for large aim and wrist for fine aim to be the 'standard' / correct way to mouse aim. However, due to my small shitty desk I've always had to do large aim with my wrist and move the mouse with just my fingers for small and vertical aim. I'm sure that it mostly depends on what you've become comfortable with, but is there any real 'best' way to hold your mouse?
f5a1f2 No.15845605
Depends entirely on the desk setup. I can do hand, wrist or a combination of both.

Buy a better mouse, they sell different sizes online. Especially if you ever decide to change your desk to allow full arm movement because it hinges on you being able to rest your whole hand gently on the mouse while keeping your wrist in the air.

Got my first proper desktop from a guy who build it, and a few months later had to sell it because his wife didn't like him playing. Long story short: it came with a Razer Naga 2012 and I just got kind of used to the fingertip/claw hybrid it kind of requires. I've got a '16 Chroma now along with the PC build I got right before getting married

This. It's hard to find modern mice for me to comfortably grip though, they are all too small and hourglass shaped. I don't know what I'll do when I can't just buy ancient OEM mice that had the perfect size and shape online anymore.

how many of you find extra mouse buttons a necessity now? Personally I usually need at least two or three around the thumb to map to shit like alternate fire modes, flashlight or triggering other common secondaries.

I guess it might be finger grip(but I have like the right most side of my palm resting on my mouse) and I mainly use fine movements with my fingers and wrist on a very high sensitivity setting. I'm not limited for space, I just don't like having to drag my mouse around like a complete neanderthal. Having games require more than an inch or two of movement feels like I'm fighting tank controls.
I don't think there's ever been a point in my life where I've felt the need to move my entire arm to do anything with my mouse other than adjust it's exact location on my desk.
The arch thing is stupid though, I prefer tall, large mouses because they fit my hand well and flat, small mouses just end in wrist pain for me. The Logitech G602 is legitimately the most comfortable mouse I have ever used in my life and the sheer degree of comfort(plus all the extra buttons) are the only reason I put up with it's absolute fucking thirst for batteries(this shit eats up more batteries than an e-hoores entire vibrator collection. I burn through a 6 pack of AAs every two months or so).
I legitimately don't care what anyone's going to say about "hur dur muh logitech suks" the G602 is fucking amazing and I'd recommend it to anyone with large hands. It's heavy, it's got just the right angle of curve and it's got on-the-fly adjustable DPI(5 settings by default) via a couple buttons you can index and the area where your palm contacts is this nice subtly grooved rubber shit and it's fucking glorious.
Other than the batteries thing, there's literally nothing bad I can say about it.

I have six of them and I've used them maybe once or twice in my life. I'd probably play more optimally if I did but I just can't be arsed to get used to it.

It compensates for the fact that you only have one hand on the keyboard so you no longer need to take your hand off the mouse to press keys like IJKL and such. When you git gud with your pinky you've got 12 extra keys you can use even when moving. It's pretty fantastic, the only downside I can think of is that you may run into some ghosting issues if you have a crappy cheap keyboard. It takes some practice but is totally worth it.

I am so much used to having two side buttons now it's really annoying to not have them somewhere else. Even if it's just moving back/forth when navigating files.
For vidya naturally I use them a lot. Not like there's any other use for your thumb and it's really easy to get them. Dunno about more, the G602 >>15846509 posted seems decent if I wanna try.
I'm using a Logitech M705. It's battery powered, which initially made me doubt the thing, but the batteries last ages. I think I switch them once a year at most. 2 AAs, I go for the expensive kind though. (There's a cable version that is actually quite a bit larger, I have that one at work.)
As for the OP, Fingertips. Claw is uncomfortable and the M705 is too small for anything else anyway.
