If anyone is interested, I just played two rounds to try it out. It's a lot better than I expected, as it doesn't just copy PUBG/Fortnite exactly and jsut takes inspiration instead.
Games are 16 players on a map about twice the size of most CS maps. The map is laid out in a hexagon tile pattern. You choose a space to drop down at before the round starts, cannot change locations, and no one can dropat the same spot. "Parachuting in" is done automatically, and everyone hits the ground at the exact same time.
Players start with 2 medsticks (that heal for shit) and their fists. Pistols are the only guns you can find on the ground or in crates that can be broken with your fists, and they come with very limited ammo, and you have to find ammo packs around the map to fill up. There are also cheap main guns like shotguns lying around in other crates that can only be broken by weapons fire, costing ammo (you really don't get a lot). As the game progresses, weapons will be airdropped in special crates that will hold high quality guns like M4s and shit.
Each player has a tablet that they can look at to view the hexagonal grid of the map. Each hexagon containing a player, including the one you're in, lights up to let you know generally where enemies are so you can't completely hide, but the hexagons are large enough to avoid confrontation if you're really trying. Unlike other battle royale, the gamme randomly chooses hexagons to airstrike on the map. Each one that gets hit becomes impassable terrain that burns you. I assume if you're caught in the time of explosion you instantly die.
There is still a money mechanic in the game. Each player has a limited buy menu of armor, tactical kit, med supplies, ammo, knife, a random pistol, and a random high level weapon that you probably won't be able to buy unless you're annihilating people. You can find cash lying around, get it by killing people, surviving in general, and there's also a suitcase you can find that designates one player a high value target, marking their hexagon specifically and giving you more money for killing them. And items purchased are delivered by drone, which seems to always spawn on the other side of the map, and is 100% invisible to all players and can give away your exact location. You can spend money to upgrade your drone as well, making it faster and more efficient.
I actually had a good bit of fun playing it. The matches are short and quick, and there's a lot of fun decision making when it comes to choosing where to go, which guns to use, and when to spend ammo. Also, unlike other BR games, there is no squad or Duos, but you are allowed to join games as groups of three and still play together without officially being on a team.
