There's some texture mods, that's about it. Also try to get past the first mission, it's a piece of shit mission that is nothing like the rest of the game. I hated that part but everything after is great.
Before you complain about the gameplay you need to make sure you git gud and level some shit first, it's a great game but it can feel clunky and autistic
There's an expansion for it as well, ignore it.

Save before you start the mission, reload and replay. Or just play the game all over again. The way the game is set out is perfect, it isn't the modern day rpg where everything eventually converges into one line.

I don't disagree to it being a better ending, however I do see it as a dangerous path due to the knowledge that was already available to men and man's curiosity to return and maintain the status quo. It would take mere months before another group or government would rebuild their strategic points with extra precautions to ensure the same issue would never repeat itself. It's more of an idealistic warning sign than an objective means to an end.
Helios offered the better solution by sacrificing our humanity. I still think there should have been a fourth option to side with Page. Unfortunately I think it was cut before it was ever scripted.

I chose to merge with helios not because that would allow it to govern fairly, but because if it was me I would want to see just how powerful I could become. I mean we crossed the line a long time ago, might as well keep going and see what happens.

At least you're honest. You do realize that's the exact same thinking that made Bob Page what he was though right? I honestly feel the Helios and Illuminati endings are just you continuing the same never-ending chain through accelerationist action or maintaining the status quo with Everett whereas the Tong ending while seemingly the same from some perspectives is more about making a whole new chain for better or worse at least from my perspective. It's discussions like this that make me love this game so much because there's so much points of view with it's themes.

The illuminati endings definitely. Paul if you save him tells you as much. They will give people some freedom, but it will a return to the 20th century. Helios ending only makes sense if you believe a machine no matter how powerful would be capable of fixing mankind's mistakes which is simply erroneous.
>Tong making a whole new chain
It's more about keeping the ability of controlling how the world thinks out of the hands of a few people. The cat's out of the bag though, and it's unlikely we'll ever go back.

I used to be a Heliosfag but the last few years of Jewry and transhumanism has made me see that Tong is the superior choice. Illuminati ending is obviously dumb, they even show JC just being a guy among them at the end. Helios could be the best ending, but its too risky and depends on the JC you have played, not to mention the AI could be playing you. Tong's ending is a reset, to wipe the slate clean. Undo decades of propaganda and economic suffering. To free humanity the world over from the Illuminati/Page's control, not to hand it over to another sect of the Illuminati or some man who may go mad and unstoppable.

Deus Ex Revision was weird but I sort of liked it. It heavily alters the level design, I guess I'd say it's worth playing once if you're "too familiar" with the vanilla experience.
GMDX is great, though. Has lots of small changes and I think they're all for the best. I would actually suggest someone play GMDX before even playing the vanilla version of the game, it's just better.

Tong ending was always my favorite, but I thought the Helios choice was also valid, in a "well, this is gonna happen eventually, so…" sort of way.

It's a hodgepodge of "reimagined" levels by a disparate group of modders with no real quality control.
Some levels are completely unchanged in design while others are unrecognizable.
Some levels have new ways to do things, others have fewer.
Some levels look like its still 2000, others look like its 2015.
Some levels will kill your FPS.
Iconic design choices are commonly left out of Revision. Most obviously the intro where instead of a backdrop of a fist rising out of the ground to engulf the world, you see a bunch of TV screens showing news broadcasts.
Subtle design choices are commonly left out of Revision. Things like where NPCs are standing to communicate what they were doing. e.g. in DX Anna is standing right next to the door to Manderley's office clearly listening in on the conversation you were having in there, in Revision she's sitting down across the room.
The mod only got acclaim because the head modder was butt buddies with someone at Square. Thanks to that the "mod" is only released officially on Steam, if you want to play it on the original disk game or from somewhere else like GoG, you have to pirate the mod.
