>and how they haven't changed in 20 YEARS.
Confirmed for not having any understanding of the impact of Sportsball games and Sportsball evolution in general
Rules in sportsball are constantly changing to either make if fairer for smaller teams or funnier for the spectators. One such rules is the introduction of instant replay technologies on the field, allowing refs to rig matches in a more professional way, or the introduction of twenty different new cups no one will bother follow except for the important, well established ones.
Also, sportsball games DO change quite a lot. Winning Eleven, up until about 2011, had its formula modified from game to game, sometimes more subtly but often times much more strongly, in part because most companies tend to be copyright pimps and whore out even simple gameplay mechanics, so developers had to always be on edge and make ones that are completely different. The Winning Eleven / Pro Evolution Soccer series is notable for making constant tweaks to their engine and for having some absolutely fantastic sound design, those menu sfxs are embedded in my head.
But what you say is true, in modern times they don't even change much at all in the engine since they know normalfags will keep on buying the games not to have fun playing sportsball against pals but to live LARPing sessions were they get to lead South Coventry or Not So Real Madrid to football stardom, or where they get to pick a BASED britbong nigger and live the story of a football star right from the start. They don't give a shit about all the technical shit that used to be all the rage. Gimme a Super Mario Strikers, a Backyard Baseball, a Klonoa Beach Volleyball - nope, just SO REAL faces and players and gachashit in the form of online only lootboxes.

(((EA))) killed the sportsball genre because you can never get away with using real names of real competitions unless you live in Pakistan or Sri Lanka.

>nerds experienced an implicit exile from sports
It's almost like being weak and/or feeble and/or socially maladjusted prevents you from joining hobbies that require masculinity, physical strength and idiotic bravado. Though, that's the beauty of sportsball games: you can connect with literal chads and mouth breathing normalfags simply by having a relaxing match in a sportsball sim. I've learnt more personal details about my acquaintances by shooting the shit while abusing game mechanics than if I'd have tried to interact with them IRL.

Don't listen to the other guys, I've got a foolproof method of faking knowledge of sportsball that you don't care about.
Let your normalfag friends start up the conversation, then ask them an opinion about [TOPICAL PLAYER] or [TOPICAL MATCH], see what they've got to say - and boooooy they have a lot to say - then try and remember some particular player or play by watching it on jewtube and admit that it's your favorite play. You'll slowly build up the sports lingo the more you ask for their opinion. Don't just sit out of the conversation, try and come up with your own strategies - to do so, don't watch where the ball-handling (lol) player or important guy actually is, just watch the entire field as if it were a board and notice the movements of all pieces without caring that they may be some stellar sportsball players - that'll get you into the "zone" where you can clearly see how tactics for each sportsball are made. Also pro tip, no normalfag who acts like a coach and talks about sportsball knows anything about sportsball, so you're always going to be on top in a conversation if you analyze even just a couple of 20 mins segments from a match. It's the art of talking about nothing while understanding everything.

FIFA is shit. The only time it wasn't was during the PSX era when you could play on the motherfucking indoor stadium, edit the players and their salaries and summon UFOs while playing on a black and white like screen.

Patrician tastes
>because it had a couple of easy kickoff-to-goal combos that were really easy to execute but other than that it is the perfect football game.
Which are? Sorry, played the PSX version.

Pick up PES Wii 2008 thru 2011 (of which I have actually extracted the sound bites since I liked them so much), comfiest, most synthwave arcade sportsball sim and card collecting management game ever created.
