>What is the point of a sonic game if the single player is shit. I can't say more since I don't even remember the extra rank stages
The stuff I'm talking about is single player. The multiplayer in that game is practically worthless. If you never played beyond the story mode enough to remember, I'll explain it. There are actually five missions per level, and story mode only plays through the first of each. Story Mode also doesn't ask you to care about points or ranks. Getting a lot of points gets you better ranks. You get points for fast times, but that's not the only factor, so you're encouraged to also kill enemies and find secrets and do tricks, though you want to be fast while doing this, and sometimes taking a slightly longer (but usually secret) route may actually get you more points. It really encourages you to master the levels, and see how intricate their designs are, and that's where the game shines. Then the game has a lot of unlockables spaced well apart to keep you playing. New costumes for beating all missions with a character. New characters for getting all A Ranks in every mission with a character, and a really cool secret level for 100%ing the game.
I disagree on your opinion of the Knuckles stages, but at the same time, I get it if that's not what you want out of a Sonic game. I wouldn't mind if the game was just three times as many Sonic/Shadow stages instead of also having hunting and shooting stages. But I also don't hate the hunting and shooting stages.
>and the ability to slap in a second controller to control the hero ally makes a huge difference in gameplay
Naw. It's a neat little bonus, but player 2 is useless. You can do this in Sonic Adventure as well, but it's useless. Even in Sonic 2 the main purpose is keeping your stupid little brother from crying and telling your mom you won't let him play. He can help out on bosses a bit but it's not a big deal. In 3&K they add elements where it would be useful to have that co-op partner, but they're few and far between, and the game is simply boring for that second player since it overall isn't made to actually cater to their having fun. Honestly, I'd say Sonic 4 Episode 2 is the only game in the series to do co-op well. Too bad it's only about half a game's worth of content.
>It is sonic adventure 3. but they realised during development that everything is fucked. I have a feeling you are one of those guys who thiniks that it is not SA3.
No, I think it's Sonic Adventure 6. I basically count Heroes and Shadow as Adventure 3 and 4. Though '06 does go back to the basic formula and forego the gimmicks from those two games. It also goes more back to Adventure 1 than even Adventure 2 did. So yes, it's very much a Sonic Adventure game. But unfortunately it's an alpha prototype. As you can tell, I love Sonic Adventure, and I still contend it could have been a great game if finished. But it's not even close.
Unleashed is also called Sonic World Adventure in Japan, and still does the hub worlds. And it actually does them well, unlike '06. But yeah the main gameplay is changed so I wouldn't it's as much an Adventure game as '06 is.
>Sonic man and the sonic power ups were some of the only good things to come out of that game.
You forgot Pele the Beloved Dog.
>I do. It was a constant movement and scenery stage like SA2. and also the music was some of the best in a long time.
The one thing I'll credit '06 with actually accomplishing well is the music. Sonic has consistently great music in practically every game in the series, except Chronicles.
>It is stated as much as it should be.
I'm not saying it's good, and I get why people wouldn't want it in a Sonic game. I'm just also saying it's not that terrible, and the main stages aren't that fantastic either. Overall I think both gameplay styles in this game come out around mediocre, although the daytime stages are still significantly higher, yes. Also, I hear it's a lot worse on the PS2/Wii version but I never played that one.
