So i played Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 on release back in the day and with no fucking clue what the story is now i picked up the HD collection -like the 3rd goddamn release of it- since it collects everything pre KH3 together to try and make some sense of it.
I breezed through Kingdom Hearts. Its a simple 20 hour action rpg with a super simple story about some dude opening a door, letting the heartless into the world and the disney villains using them to gain power and kidnapping a bunch of princesses. Its almost quaint how low budget and small in scope this 8-ish level long game is.
But then i got to "Re: Chain of Memories" which i emulated on VBA way back on release and i got like an hour in. Hearing this was a 3d rebuild i was hopeful that it was in some way improved but its such a fucking slog. I'm currently on floor 7 of castle oblivion with no idea how much longer there is and i cannot wait for it to end. I know KH2 is fun as i beat it on release and can only hope stuff like birth by sleep is better than this but as a completionist fuck who wants the whole story as a game rather than watching a movie i have to force myself to suffer through it.
Whens the last time you played a shit sequel just to get the story because a better game after that?
I wonder if DMC2 counts since its chronologically after 3 and 4.

Okay so off the top of my head
if you're on floor 7 there are only a few more floors for you to slog through, then you have to do Riku's story mode which is way more fun. and a lot shorter and simpler.
Anyway.
Try to learn mega flare, once you learn megaflare the game becomes bitch mode.
Marluxia is a FUCKING CUNT DADDY though and will fuck your shit up 7 ways to Sunday if you don't know your fucking sleights.

If you consider CoM a shit sequel in the series, you don't know what you're getting into after 2.
Hopefully you've been maxing your CP whenever possible along with slights. Magic is OP like it was in KH so fire and thunder spam deals with anything that isn't magic resistant like sorcerers or those rhapsodies until you get dumb slights like mega flare (which still won't kill sorcerers, but will 1HKO most other mobs).

Castle oblivion is 13 floors long, and the neoshadows on the last one will fuck your shit up as they will always carry a zero card to disrupt your combos, i suggest you go grind for some blizzard and fire cards, blizzaga shits on normal enemies and firaga deals with bosses.

DMC2 was the most recent for me actually. At least the game is short enough that I plowed through it in two sittings. Most shitty sequels are really long as the shit cherry on top, like CoM. Even though I suffered through it, I would recommend watching the rest on youtube. You have a disk 2 with Riku after you beat it for the entire story. His deck is preset and locked, so it goes faster, but it's still another 13 fucking floors. Plus you get theater mode after beating it anyways. If you're playing the HD version, you only get cutscenes for 358/2 days (critical to understanding the story), Re:Coded (worst KH ignoring mobileshit), and mobileshit backcover (lore on the very beginning). You're not playing those, so why torture yourself with this shit?

True. It was built with the handheld in mind so it succeed at what it does. Probably the only problem with it was the card grind you had to do to open specific doors or be completionist and open all paths. Best of the GBA games. In terms of story, you really didn't need to play this before kingdom hearts 2 since it was more of a recap on what happened in 1 and being the bridge in 2.
I'm sure someone has that post talking about the convoluted story of the entire game but I'll go back to a previous suggestion that they should have done a cgi movie that condenses and recaps what happened in the previous kingdom hearts game into one or just 3 2-hour movies because the story is a mess to follow on casual playing and probably long enough that it would take that much to explain all the important points.

They placed it at the far end of it after DMC4 so that they didn't have to think about it too much until it was confirmed from a producer that 5 will be following 2. Any big references to it like Lucia have yet to be seen, but it would (somewhat) explain why everything looks so ugly in the game.

Thus far like 60% in CoM serves to introduce the organisation and the fact they are chasing sora because hes the second person to turn back from a heartless to a person. Its been a hot minute since i played 2 but i think the organisation are all nobodies so either more people doing what sora did is a way to make themselves whole or the end of their existence depending on perspective. Only one cutscene mind you but it gives them a direction they dont have for most of KH2 were you go from half a dozen disney villains stealing princesses for powers sake to extreme horseshit in 2 games.

I played DS2 like this, i didn't have any fun slogging through PvE and instead deride my fun from PvP on Iron Keep. Then i used a trainer and make broken builds into the game and autistically RP each character with their own 'classes' and 'playstyle'. I got somehow got alot of fun from this, and DS2's variety of viable builds really makes it fun for repeat walkthroughs.
Compare this to DS3 where at NG+ i'm already fucking disinterested into the game in a big way. And i tried every single """""""build""""""" in the fucking game, magic got really shafted in DS3. Makes me miss DeS' gamebreaking magic
