Lets have a thread about Nature magic. I am kind of a sucker for druid magic, you know manipulating plants and animals all while wearing some tribal garb made of leaves or whatever. Unfortunately I dont know many games where you can really be a druid, Best I can think of is WoW and that ain't doing too well.
Shamans are cool too. really any game that lets me control nature is good to me. Bonus points if the game has Wolf headdress or something.

I doubt you'll be able to find a game more focused on druidism than Baldur's Gate 2, on account of there being a whole side activity where your druid protag takes over an abandoned druid's grove and manages it. Sure, it's just one of the multiple career-based dungeon side activities (warriors and derivatives have the De'Arnise castle, mages have that planesphere thing), but the druid's is solid.

In terms of the story, yes, however the intro area is completely new and there's no transition to how you got captured. You just are captured. There's also returning companions from the first game, but NPCs in the first game didn't banter nearly as much so your attachment isn't too great.

>I always wanted to try BG2 but the intro was confusing for me and I assume I have to play the first one to understand.
Yes and no. In terms of story, you really just have to know you're an orphan raised in a cosy little castle/library and had to get the fuck out of dodge because it turns out you're one of the many children of a dead evil god (he went in a dicking spree to ensure his legacy before getting shafted, basically.) BG1 is about escaping various henchmen who want to kill you dead so one particularly vicious of your half-brothers can be the only one remaining and inherit godlike powers.
It's more the returning allies that are important here. In the intro of BG2, you are reunited with four of them.
>Imoen
Your adopted sister in the aforementioned cozy castle town. Sweet, lively and playful, loves you very much.
>Khalid and Jaheira
The first real allies you meet after your escape. Respectively a warrior with a stammer and his comandeering druid of a wife
>Minsc
A bugfuck crazy fucker who keeps a pet hamster, talks to it, and insist he's a "dwarf giant hamster from outer space.
That's really all you should need to properly enjoy BG2. And yes, you basically get a free druid in your party, and there is also another druid NPC out there, so you can make a triple-thread druid party.

Not really related to druids, but you know what would be really cool? A simulation/RTS style game where you have a dead land back to health after it was ravaged by The Apocalypse/Nuclear War/Planetary Bombardment.
It would start out relatively basic - just finding seeds and fertile soil would be difficult after how much of a beating the planet took, but little by little, your settlement would turn into an oasis of green within an otherwise grey and lifeless world.

From Dust had elements of the idea you're talking about, though at a pretty simplistic level of detail. The player can pick up and drop dirt, water, and lava around the map to create land bridges, oasis's, rock barriers, etc.. Forest grows across dirt (and in some levels needs water as well); probably my favorite part of that game was covering the map in life.
I would love a game dedicated to this concept with a more interesting simulation of food chains / natural biomes. I would imagine that different levels would involve unique environments and creatures (a coniferous forest, a dense jungle, desert/tundra, bamboo forest, maybe even corral reefs and kelp forests), and objectives could be to reach a certain biomass threshhold, or save the area from an encroaching natural disaster (fire, tsunami, invasive species).
Basically, I'd want a game that's more zoomed -out than From Dust, but less zoomed-out than SimEarth.

I find it a little odd that you pointed out wow but not D2 since that basically checks all your boxes
<summon plants, animals and nature spirits to fight for you
<use nature magic to blast the forces of evil with fire and ice
<shapeshift into a wearbear or wearwolf to rip and tear with your bear bare hands
in the expansion each class gets a type of gear that give huge bonuses to their class and that only they can use. druids get animal headdresses
game is still holds up well even today and is easy as piss to pirate considering you can mod out some of the online only things such as certain runeword restrictions and such

From Dust actually was surprisingly good shit, chiefly held back by the fact that it was a glorified tech demo with way too gameplay time as if that it could keep you hooked.
A shame, really. It gave off these really cool Populous vibes, and seeing desert land slowly turning green after you made the bed for an artificial river running through it was enormously satisfying.

>Chernobyl Druid
Could be an interesting concept, really. As in, Mother Nature having held still across all the centuries of mankind wrecking the planet at and ever-increasing pace, but then the Chernobyl disaster was the straw which broke the camel's back. So now you have the Stalker-like exclusion zone around Pripyat, except it's not the C-Consciousness guarding it, but an absolutely furious force of nature that protects the wounded land like a bear mother would protect its cub.
Bonus points for a good ending where Nature slowly begins to accept humanity's help to deal with the proverbial fallout.
