What are the most generic and infantile game settings or stories you can think of? Plots that if they were any other medium, literature or film or television, would be either totally ignored or mocked endlessly.
For me, Star Citizen's Squadron 43 seems to be exactly that. It's got a bunch of Hollywood actors running around and saying cheesy grimdark lines, with some completely forgettable aliens stabbing people with speers while boring looking spaceships fly around. Why is this allowed? Wasn't this game supposed to be ambitious?

With Stasis, it's downright sad - the plot starts out fairly promising and has questions such as whether or not hurting (i.e., experimenting on) one person can be justified if it serves the many, or what you would do with people who were locked in cryogenic sleep for a few decades, to the point that everyone and everything they knew has already died.
And then, for some bullshit reason I can not begin to imagine, it all boils down to yet another insane scientist who wants to rule the world with his army of monsters. I seriously was fucking disappointed after I finished the game.

Criticizing a children's cartoon for having a simplistic and absurd plot is stupid. I'm not talking about Mario or Donkey Kong, I'm talking about games that are trying to be taken seriously. It's better to have no plot than a bad plot, and I'd say Mario has no plot, so you can't criticize it. Mario isn't trying to have a plot, while Star Citizen wants to be taken seriously, despite having a completely soulless universe.

Bravely Default.
Characters are gullible beyond idiocy despite the game practically breaking your ribs from all the nudging it does to set up the oh-so-predictable betrayal.
All of the game's plot could be easily adverted if the templar was clear on his intentions from the start but more importantly, if Julyana and Lester decided to get off their asses and do something about the fucking prophecy they were entrusted with.
Besides, it's shown they are miles ahead of the party power-wise. Without Lester and his plot-device power, the final boss would never have been vanquished and Julyana's so powerful he can keep dimensional tears open by himself. And he fucking knew ever since you meet him for the first time what was going on but decided
"Fuck it, it's not like every reality is at stake here let's just let these idiots be manipulated for a bit longer. I'm sure they'll realize it by the time they awaken the third crystal."
And when the characters actually realize they're being conned, they just go along with it for no reason. And the game treats this as the right choice. It's not like you condemn like 3 or 4 realities to non-existance in the final boss fight or anything.

TotA is actually one of the better written ones. All of the characters, even the edgelords among the villains, ended up likable after their individual character arcs and you could surely sympathize with Ion's plight. This is not to say that there weren't any plot holes left loose by the time you get to the bittersweet ending, but you still get a satisfying closure to everything important. And the romance between Luke and Tear was actually done very well, especially because the whole thing started with them hating each other but forced to work together, not to mention the subtly done tension between Natalia, Luke/Asch and Guy.
Now Tales of Zestiria with its semi-canon homo and yuri pairings is one even the nip otakus and reddit hated, partly because the deuteragonist was a fucking Mary Sue in all definitions of the term while the actual MC is an autistic faggot with ADHD who could go from the equivalent of "waaaaah my buddy died, fuck this cruel world to hell" to "mmmm donuts" in a matter of seconds. And this faggot with his butt buddy are still way better written than the deuteragonist which the game shilled so hard for you to latch on. That game is one of the rare instances where the anime adaptation was clearly superior, despite deviating quite significantly from the source material.
However I do particularly dislike how Tales games tend to push a significant part of worldbuilding and important background info into the skits aka missable party banter and their stupid "show, don't tell - but do it shittily because lol we want the fans to debate it forever and keep them interested in the planned spin-offs" policy of storytelling. It's getting obvious that the plot related skits are now used as replacement for full blown cutscenes because they're getting lazy.

Hotline Miami 2 doesn't have a plot so much as it does have a poorly-structured imbroglio with a point of view that jumps between characters that have little to no connection to each other and switch roles between protagonist and antagonist on the fly. It likes to pretend that it has a five act structure but let's see how well it adheres to it:
Exposition: The first playable character we are introduced to dies at the end of the first act. The Fans are exposited: they're vigilantes that want publicity (although, that motivation is not made clear until much later).
Rising: We are introduced to more characters. The Fans actually have a rising action by killing the Henchman and storming through the flophouse. The success of these missions gives them media attention but also sets them up for their downfall.
Climax: Yet another bunch of characters are introduced.
The Fans are drunk on machismo from having killed their fair share of low level thugs and decide to massacre Russian Mobsters like their idol, Jacket. However, they are all killed by the end of this mission.
Falling: Now that the fans are dead and don't have any more missions to play: they can't really have a falling action, now can they?
Intermission: This act destroys all pretense of a neatly structured plot. This one is focused on two characters and follows a linear narrative told in flashback.
Denounement (They fucked up by calling it the Catastrophe): One last character we've already met is given his proper introduction. We are shown his perspective of the events that took place in the Climax while also revealing that Manny Pardo was the Miami Mutilator all along, and the story ends the way the game's individual levels unfolded, with people shooting weapons at each other and killing everybody.

After the concert the promoter, Anwar, is unable to pay them the $10 million in cash he promised, but relents after being threatened. However, instead of the cash they were promised, he gives them a diamond-and-pearl encrusted human skull (bearing a striking resemblance to a platinum cast diamond encrusted skull by artist Damien Hirst) as collateral. This is promptly stolen by a paramilitary group led by the terrorist Kamal. 50 Cent (with the help of a selected G-Unit partner) decides to get it back at any cost and soon, they find out that there is a much bigger enemy than Kamal."

Second is Lunar: Dragon Song. My issue with Destroy is that the cost comes completely out of nowhere. If beating the Reapers had some serious price, that'd be fine. What isn't fine is shoe-horning in a cost like that into the one ending that the player was primed to go for without any explanation why it was neccesary and then sticking two other endings in without that price that were treated as better (if I recall right, ghost kid even outright calls Synthesis the "best" choice and it's only available if you've got enough points, unlike destroy which is always available in some form).
To me the AI genocide part of the Destroy ending seemed like it was trying to make the ending choice be about Organics vs Synthetics rather than the Galaxy vs Reapers. Hence why Synthesis doesn't actually do anything to the Reapers and Control basically makes Shepard into the head Reaper. So it felt like Destroy was supposed to be more the player going "You're right, AI are evil," rather than simply acomplishing what you originally set out to do. You can also see this in how even best Destroy endings include the AI genocide when all Synthesis endings have the war immediately end with friendly Reapers helping everyone rebuild and reveal all this sweet technology they recorded other cycles developing.
