90s virtual reality Anonymous 11/24/18 (Sat) 07:10:26 48a041 No.15773518
did anyone else here experience 90s vr?
this used to be at a place in orlando called disney quest.
I had alot of fun playing it back in the day.
it would be really neat if it could be re released now that vr is in peoples homes.

I did, only once. I think it was this game. I think VR can work very well in arcades. But the high cost of the devices, the need for a purpose-built stand or seat, and the fact that it's really a gimmick with limited staying power, make it much less viable at home.

No, but I did occasionally play that one Sega game with holograms at the local Tokens & Tickets. I still have no idea what the fuck it was about. Something about a cowboy and time travel.

An independent game/toy place in a town nearby had one set up for about a month before it vanished forever. It felt old even then, I walked through an decidedly simple wire mesh maze in one of pic relateds though the treadmill part looked like it was no-where near as sleek or designed as that, it was like they just had the helmet and made some ramshackle carnie-style base to keep the retards penned in, I can't remember much about the experience other than being pretty underwhelmed at the end, it was pretty shitty and heavy as fuck, the guy changed the program while I was in there and I remember staring into a hazy blue/green space all around me for a second before some other loading screen came up.

That actually would be an interesting idea to revive the classical arcades - equip them with high-quality VR hardware that your usual normalfag can not or will not afford.
On second thought, I suppose people don't want to ape around in public with VR glasses on, and I'm not sure I would like to wear VR googles after that guy covered them in his sweat and saliva.

I bought a cheap WMR headset not expecting much, and I am honestly pretty impressed. Most of the problem with VR is that the games made for it are designed poorly. I've had a ton of fun playing Pavlov:VR. It reminds me of the first year I spent playing Counter Strike in high school. Gorn is pretty fun too, but the gimmick wears thing after a while. Another game called Sword and Sorcery has a similar formula, but looks like it plays a little better. A decent RPG based on those mechanics could be pretty fun. Similarly; a cockpit-based game can work in VR just fine.

I've got a vive and it's been serving me pretty well. At the moment all the games are very arcadey pick up and play types. There isn't really anything with persistence that you can build up your standing or base over several sessions. There are a few RPGs but they're all not very good and all very short. I'm hoping for a legend of grimrock port to vr to be honest.
Horror is beyond amazing in vr though holy shit. Flatscreen games you jump at something and feel silly because it's not there. Vr you jump and it's still there. Depth perception makes everything seem so much more imposing and you get a real sense of how fast and dangerous things are.
