THANKSGIVING WEEKEND GAMENIGHT: JEDI ACADEMY
Starting Friday 2pm EST/7pm UTC
We're running OpenJK for stability and compatibility with modern and free™ OSes and with a custom pack of custom characters, maps and lightsabers so you can play as just about any character you want. Gameplay is pretty much vanilla, but with some minor fixes and extra animations like the Sheev spin.
How to get it

Piratefags: get the lazy installation pack and the modpack
Legitfags: get the manual installation and the modpack
How to install
Piratefags: Extract the lazy pack wherevere you want then extract the modpack into the jka/ folder, accepting overwrites/merges.
Legitfags: If you want to use your own copy of the game exract the "manual" installation files, copy the assets#.pk3 files from your legit copy of the game into the jka/base/ folder and then extract the modpack into the jka/ folder like above.
To run the game, just double click PlayGaem.bat if you're on windows or a .sh if you're on Linux.
How to connect
Name: Infinity Gamenight
Password: infv
If you don't want to bother scrolling through the entire server list to find us open the console (` key by default) and typing connect 73.182.32.243; password infv
Notes
Both versions are set to 1920x1080 resolution for you, if you want to change that see the FAQ post below this one.
Both versions need to make sure to use PlayGaem.bat when you want to launch the game.
If you have any issues with installing just ask ITT, if nobody answers for a bit we're all asleep but we'll get to you tomorrow.

>How do I change the resolution?
Go to your jka\JAplus\ folder and open autoexec.cfg with notepad. Change these two lines to your chosen resolution:
seta r_customheight "1080"
seta r_customwidth "1920"
>How do I change fov?
Same autoexec.cfg as above change seta cg_fov "90" to whatever you want.
>Wat are controls?
WASD = movement
Mouse 1 = attack
Mouse 2 = secondary attack
Mouse 3 (i.e. click mouse wheel) = change lightsaber style (light, medium or heavy)
Spacebar = jump
1 = activate/deactivate lightsaber
Mousewheel scrolling = change weapon
Q & E = scroll through force powers
F = use force power
R = use (i.e. activate button, get in vehicle etc)
K = challenge a fag to a 1v1 duel sort of half broken right now please hold
C = crouch
tab = scoreboard (if people are invisible or stuck in a T pose hitting this can fix that too)
You can rebind these by hitting esc once you're in game. Make sure to check the controls and see if something is bound to taunt, if not pick a button.
>How do I block blaster shots?
It's automatic and based on jedi skill just aim yourself roughly at the cunt firing at you, customise your faggot (esc -> profile) to change his skill. Light stance is most effective at this.
>What about blocking saber hits?
This is automatic too and also largely based on skills you pick. Light stance struggles when blocking medium and heavy attacks, medium is a bit better vs heavy. Recommended is to use medium in multiple-person fights and heavy for a 1v1 but all three styles can work anywhere in the hands of a good player. There is more subtlety at higher-level play but I'm a button-mashing shitter so I won't be going into it. Read this I guess http://strategy.jediknight.net/jka/saber.shtml or wait for autistic anons ITT to explain it.

Go to the main menu -> play -> moves. Sadly you can't do this while ingame. Again http://strategy.jediknight.net/jka/saber.shtml has a list.
>How do I change my character, lightsaber style and force powers?
Press esc while ingame, hit profile. Your character model will change when you hit apply but force powers and lightsaber style require you to die and respawn (kill in console helps).
>How do I Sheev spin?
Use heavy attack style and jump + move forwards + attack. It can take a few tries to get used to.
>How do I sit down?
Bind a key to controls -> other -> meditate or type "meditate" in the console.
>Why OpenJK/JA+?
Better compatibility with modern and free operating systems and more stability now I've said that prepare for crashing + some bugfixes. Also we needed it for spinning and that's a good trick.
>How does liberty die?
With thunderous applause.
>Why did my saber get locked with my opponents' one?
That happens sometimes, hit attack more than him to win and knock him down.
>How do I take screenshots?
Open the console and type /bind KEY screenshot silent (replace KEY with what key you want to hit to take a screenshot e.g. #). These save to Documents\My Games\OpenJK\japlus\screenshots on (((Windows))) and ~/.local/share/openjk/japlus/screenshots on GNU+Linux.
>How do I take non-jpg screenshots?
The same as above but type /bind KEY screenshot_tga silent (they save to the same place too). Note that you'll still have to convert these to .jpg or .png to post them (not hard but bad if you're lazy). It's possible to have both options bound to separate keys if you desire

Damn, the nostalgia. One of the better SW games, including classics, I've played. Sure, it doesn't have such an epic story and awesome events as many others but somehow it, and Jedi Outcast were so satisfying due to the whole saber fighting, it was one of the few SW games (or games in general) I've played several times from start to the end.

In my experience Movie Battles is as much about buffing the non-saber users as it is improving the lightsaber combat in general and whether or not all the changes they've made to saber combat over the years are good is skub. Personally I think the saber stuff specifically used to be better in the earlier versions but I'd still love to play it with anons as well sometime since any version blows modern Star Wars games out of the water.

Basic guide:
>moving in different directions and swinging does different moves

is the most versitile can be used in fast medium or heavy styles each with their own speed, moves and damage. Arguably the least defensive of the three particularly when used in heavy style.

are the spammiest and is surprisingly good in defence doubly so if you abuse the kata but an experienced player with either of the other two choices will win a 1v1 against you every time. Medium style is default and can swap to light style which disables one saber and is like the single saber light style. Your W+M1 weapon of choic but it can excel in the chaos of larger playercounts.

Highest learning curve and skill ceiling of the three but can be an absolute beast in the right hands. Can swap to a medium style where one end is disabled and works like the single sabers medium and also regains the ability to throw your saber. Solid both offensively and defensively.
